: Gas Mileage
tenxsixplus9 12-03-2005, 04:04 PM Does anyone keep track of what gas mileage they are getting? We drive 95% on the highway, and out of this last tank of gas, averaged 12.5mpg. Which was 210 miles out of the tank! Doesnt sound right to me...........

Try resetting your gas milage counter when your on the highway. And, dont let the engine idle so much. You'd be surprised how those 2 things will skew your miliage figures up.
supercharged 12-03-2005, 07:34 PM Sounds similar to mine, and thats 92 octane.......
I have a 4X4 suburban that get close to 15mpg hwy I have to take it if going very far
tenxsixplus9 12-04-2005, 08:17 PM I dont understand why Nissan doesnt call for changing the fuel filter. Also didnt see in the owners manual when to change the trans fluid and filter. Im definitely not waiting til 105k to change the plugs. Would the K&N air filter make it get bad gas mileage?
supercharged 12-05-2005, 11:33 AM Make sure it's good and clean...I service mine more often that I was replacing the paper elements
supercharged 01-19-2006, 03:01 PM Hey tenxsix where have you been??
The four of us could really overload the server
Ricer-X 01-19-2006, 03:19 PM since i put my k&N filter and began using full syn motor oil, my mpg has increased significantly, i get like 1.5-2 works day more out of a tank, not to maention throttle response, smoother idle, less engine noise, and more power, i will be switching from mobil 1 full syn to amsoil full syn on the next change
supercharged 01-19-2006, 03:27 PM When I started mob 1 I didn't really notice much difference, exept after sitting a while, the lifter followers, or something rattle for several seconds after starting

full synthetic or dyno oil?
supercharged 01-19-2006, 03:32 PM At the risk of sounding stupid........just regular old mobil 1, is fully synthetic is'nt it?
Hey I think milehigh is listening
tenxsixplus9 01-19-2006, 06:05 PM Im here. I havent been on here in awhile though. Mobil 1 is full synthetic, but Mobil does make oil that isnt. Im running Amsoil in ours now. I bumped the tire pressure up to 35psi and thats helping a little.
Ricer-X 01-20-2006, 09:21 AM on-road should never have less than 35psi or more than 40-42(hot)(purely opinion), helps with the mpg big time. off road i air down to 20psi, since its pretty low but not to where i need to worry about the tire coming off the wheel(i wish beadlocks were street legal!)
supercharged 04-10-2006, 04:40 PM I got 16.3 mpg on a short trip friday, I dumped the safari rack and that plastic deflector thing...I'm pretty proud of her :)
koober1 04-10-2006, 04:47 PM Hey guys I'm confused. I have a new 2006 and I have a questions about putting gas in her. My husband tells me to put 89 in it. He says because it's a v6 i should put the better gas in it so it doesn't twing in the tank. However my dad has a Ford Explorer and he says 87 is fine.
hmmmm whats right?
supercharged 04-10-2006, 04:59 PM I will probably open a can of worms, but I have decided it may not be so much the octane, but the addatives that a particular fuel company may use.
Where I live I use Chevron 91 0ctane (it has tectron or somthing like that) or Fina 92 octane, which stinks really bad, I don't know what they use.
But an unbranded fuel, like at the grocery store or mom and pop, is anybodys guess, and has no standard as far as upgrading the product after it leaves the refinery, thats why it seems like a better value..........
koober1 04-10-2006, 05:03 PM I use the Arco by my work and i found this to be quiet strange. When I had my celica I usually used 89. Up until the gas went over 3 bucks a gallon (which it has done again Grrrr) Then I used 87. But here is the weird thing. My celica did BETTER with 87 then 89! I got more miles per tank. Like 50 miles more! I'm wondering if this will be the same thing with the xterra. Guess I'll just have to experiment.
Ricer-X 04-11-2006, 08:38 AM my aunt owns a 2001 pathy that without a doubt, runs best on 89
xterra1982 04-11-2006, 08:54 AM I run 87 in mine... mostly because I've never ran anything but 87 in any vehicle I've ever had.... would anyone suggest bumping it up to premium? I haven't had mine long enough to really notice a problem with the mileage I'm getting or performance... although I do have that rough idling problem.. any correlation?
Ricer-X 04-11-2006, 08:59 AM if my aunt puts anything other than 89 in her pathy, either higher or lower it idles rough. i dont know if its applicable for you since she has a VQ and you have a VG but it shouldnt hurt to try, i put 93 in mine
koober1 04-11-2006, 09:16 AM Well I'm almost at 200 miles and I still have a tad more then half a tank left. Maybe next time I fill up I'll get 87 and see the difference. 98 right now is $3.09!!!!!! UGGGG
K maybe I'm a total blond but how do you figure out how many miles you get to a gallon?

Take how ever many miles you drove on your last tank and divide it by the gallons to fill it up. Example.... you got 310mi and then you fill up 17 gallons...... 310mi / 17gal = 18.2mile/gal.......it's not exact but a rough estimate.
koober1 04-11-2006, 09:49 AM Thanks! I never was that great in math LOL Thats why I draw for a living
