The Nissan Offroad Association of the Southeast Presents:
http://www.noas4x4club.com/images/layout/TopNOASlogoAni.gif
Uwharrie NOAS Fall Run 2008

When:
Friday, September 26th through Sunday, September 28th
Where:
Uwharrie National Forrest - Troy, NC (http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/uwharrie/uwharrie_off.htm)
Who:
Anyone with a Nissan is invited to come, paid member or not.
Cost:
$5 a day / $30 a year
Passes can be bought at the following locations:

Donnie Mullinix Store – Hwy 109, Uwharrie
Eldorado Outpost – Hwy 109, Uwharrie
Swift Island BP – Hwy 24/27 and River Road
Jake's Store – Hwy 109, Troy, NC
Camping/Lodging:
We have two 50 person tent campground sites reserved at Badin Lake Campground (http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/uwharrie/badin_lake_campground.htm). We are NOT camping at Deep Water Horse Camp as we have in previous years. Cost will vary, depending on how many people show up, but we're estimating something like $5 a tent/truck for members and $10 for non-members per night.
Trails:
Uwharrie has trails of varying difficulty, easy to modified. Most trails have hard lines and bypasses for those who are up for the challenge. Runs and a trail schedule will be decided upon Friday evening. We will break down into groups to avoid trail congestion.
Easy trails: Passable by most stock Nissans*
Modified: Lift or 31” tires recommended*
(Stock Hardbody should be OK. Stock R50 might have issues)
Difficult: Lift, aggressive tires, winch recommended*
Extreme: Lift, tires, winch, lack of concern for damage*
*Keep in mind that you will be taking your vehicle over rough terrain and will be taking the chance of damage including body damage, rocker panel dents, tree limb scratches, under body damage, etc.
Weather:
The weather in NC can be unpredictable. Always be prepared for the worse. Due to the time of year this even is scheduled it is possible that it will get cold at night or even during the day so bring adequate clothing and sleeping gear. We advise checking the weather before you leave in the chance that extra preparation is needed for rain or freezing conditions. We are die-hard wheelers and won't call off the event unless there are extremely bad weather conditions called for.

Troy, NC Weather (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Troy&state=NC&site=RAH&textField1=35.3641&textField2=-79.8932&e=0)
CB and FRS:
CB is the preferred method of on trail communication. FRS can be used but has a very limited range compared to CB. Channel will be determined on site to ensure we can pick a quiet one.
Directions:
We will be meeting at the Badin Lake Campground on Saturday morning. The best address for directions is:
ElDorado Outpost
4021 NC 109
Troy, NC 27371
This will put you near the campsite.
Click here to get Google directions from the Outpost to the Badin Lake Campground. I'm seriously thinking about trying to make this run. I leave for Vegas sometime around then so I can't say for sure but I'd definitely like to hit up URE.

What say you Tuff? I think I saw that Andy was going.

yea, I'm going. This is the only official NOAS run I've been able to make this year. (CC didn't count, everyone wussed out at the last minute)

I think one night is gonna be a potlock dinner night. Me and andy are down for some oreo pies. :)

Damn! Troy, NC is nearly a 10-hour drive for me! I'll blow my budget just on gas alone. Hmmm... man I want to go because I haven't made a NOAS run all year either.

Guess I better start checking the seat cushions and rolling pennies.

URE is good for maybe a one time or two time trip if you're driving long distance... there's really not that many trails there. We did everything more than a gravel road in one afternoon.

The only reason I go is URE is the big NOAS gathering and we had tons of nissans last year.

Yes we are a paid membership club that holds 3 lager open runs and one private run a year.
There are benefits to being a member. Most are not discuss on an open forum but for camping at URE members pay $5 and non-members pay $10 per night.

To attend an open run
You must own a Nissan truck or SUV

You must be at least 18 years old.

You must love to wheel it.:mocking:

So when is the next coal creek run going to be??? im hoping to have a 2 inch bl and some 33's on there before the next one so maybe i can try a little more this time

Drake
08-27-2008, 04:16 PM
I'm sure you can persuade Tuff to the trails just about any time if he's not working. I know we had talked about a weekend at Tellico which would be kickass. One of my jeep buddies would be interested in that for sure.

I'm hoping that when I get back from Vegas the first week of October, I'll be ordering my M/T's. I think I'm going to buy one tire later this week as a test fit before I order the other 4. I just can't make up my mind which tire I want. I'm thinking next weekend is going to be uca/shock install day for me.

I know once I do get my M/T's, Coal Creek will be top priority for me.

Jdubbau02

so whats the deal with the noas run are you or stevin or anyother regional member going? i know you said it was like 10 hours for you?

Drake
08-27-2008, 04:20 PM
I got to thinking about it on my way home from work and it would either be:

a.) Go to Uwharrie for the weekend

b.) buy M/T's and save for sliders

I'm really really really leaning heavily towards option b. Those are two things that are really holding me back on the trails. I would be a lot more gutsy on the trails if I didn't have to fear thrashing my rocker panels.

Jdubbau02
08-27-2008, 04:25 PM
if i was you i think i would definatly go with b like you said it would help you out so much on the trails and you would be saving you x. i have decided that my mod list order is now

2 bl
33 bfg mt's
steering system
new tbars
uca's
aal's
armor
and somewhere in there i want a new head unit

I dont know if I'm going to go to NOAS run or not....its too far to tell right now. I have to see what my work schedules are like when it gets closer and if I have enough money left after paying some bills but we'll see when it gets closer.

Drake

If I had the cash for sliders believe me, I'd be placing the order right now because I can put the tires on credit by then.

Is Frontier2K1 still fabbing sliders or has he taken a break since Brock's project? Or is it his full-time job? I really like the design he has.

And
"I would be a lot more gutsy on the trails if I didn't have to fear thrashing my rocker panels"

LOL I'm not wheeling with you anymore if you're gonna step up your game.

URE is a pretty fun NOAS meet, but if it comes to serious modding or driving all the way out there, I'd do the mods. It's something like 6 or 7 hours for me, and that pretty much pushes the limit on how far I'll drive to go wheeling.

Drake

Yeah man... I mean I'm looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $250 if not more just in gas to make that trip. I've got a brand new set of rims still in the box that have been waiting for M/T's for about 6 months now. I've got to get those things wrapped and mounted eventually and quit burning up my DD tires on the rocks. Both times I was ready to get the tires I ended up scoring skid plates and uca's instead.

I've searched the boards and not having any luck finding Porsche's sliders. Any ideas on where he's posted them and how much he charges?

Man you guys are making this a hard decision for me. I'm still waiting on my work schedule to get confirmed for Vegas so I really can't plan anything until I find out exactly when I'm leaving. But if that weekend is clear AND I am able to get my M/T's before then, I'll make the journey. I just can't make up my mind what tire I'm wanting to go with. Really leaning towards the Yokohama Geolander M/T's but I also like the Trxxus M/T's. Then there's the SSR's and the SX... aaaahhhhgggg!!! Dammit! See what I mean? lol

Don't worry you guys - it's a yearly thing. :) If you're dyin' to wear out your truck, we can make a special trip to Tellico... :D

I was gonna beat the piss out of my truck this weekend, but I noticed some nasty stuff the other day while replacing a UBJ... welds giving way and the infamous cracked lower shockmount on the LCA. I'm on the road all week, so I won't get time to weld over everything... so I'm hoping I can take it easy and not break anything too major.

holy crap. I intended to go out there and break my truck, but didn't think it would happen with less than a 1/4 mile of trail all weekend long.

The short of it is, we went up Daniel, came to a spot that was really washed/dug out from last year. The extreme group was comprised of about 6 SAS nissans, and 2 IFS nissans. On the first obstacle, only 3 SAS'd rigs and 1 IFS made it up without use of a winch line. :D I beat the holy livin' crap outta my truck, but by god I made it. The only real damage from that obstacle was I cracked my passenger's side front brake line - the metal part that mounts to the caliper. I also bent the crap out of a rim, and got a bunch of tree roots stuck in another, not to mention tying my exhaust in a knot and clamping it off pretty good. (lots of wooshy sounds come from my exhaust now)
The next obstacle up, I sliced a sidewall open, had to back up and put the spare on, and gave it another shot. My brakes completely gave out, and I had a bit of a scary ride down the rocks until the transmission park lock finally clicked on while pumping the brakes and slapping the ebrake on... After working so hard to get up the roughest spot, I had to be strapped down the whole trail with no brakes.

We had a bunch of carnage at that one spot, it made for a pretty good show.

I've got alot of work to do on my rig before it's ready for another trail ride, much less ready for street driving. The 8 hour drive home was a little fun using only the e brake, lol.

I'll post a vid of my successful attempt later.
