I decided that after 15 years of living in this house that I should redo the piping to the front hose connection. So I go to HD and buy the parts.

I deftly cut out a hole in the sheetrock thinking "Im an engineer" I can do this through a small hole.

Well, the hole got bigger.

Enter my neighbors. My neighbors are my die hard friends. I love them. But I'm going to kill Scott.

I was just about done when I soldered the last connection. Then I turned on the water. Scottt screamed "Shut it off!"

Apparently, Scott didnt pay attention to the fact that the main idea of a hose faucet should point downward.

The water was shooting all over the driveway.

It was so difficult to get the pipe to solder,,, that I was considering having to connect the hose upside down.

But Scott wouldnt have that.

So we dug A bigger hole in the wall.

We tried to re solder the pipe but it wouldnt take the solder.

Ahh! We need more flux. But we dont have any more flux.

We run to Bob's house. Bob has flux. Bob comes over, and points out that in our drunken haze, we didnt realize that the holes on the torch were clogged with solder drips and we just werent gettin enough heat.

So now, I have a new faucet.

And to think,

I bought another one for the back of the house...:) :)

Boof, I so feel your pain. I'm doing fencing work (which I have never done before). I thought I was going to come down play with my new nephew and paint some trim and assemble furniture. Oh boy was I cracked out. :auslachen2-big: we are clearing brush, driving posts and building a chain link fence. Never mind the fact neither I nor my brother in law know what we are doing, it has been decreed...

Having done alot of plumbing work, part of which was plumbing in a new water heater for a co-worker yesterday which included almost 32 feet of new copper to replace old steel pipe, I think I know where you went wrong. All the flux in the world won't make the solder flow if the copper isn't scored with emery cloth first. You may or may not know that, or may have found out already. Just some advise is all. Also the soldering torches you can buy at HD or menards have a maximum flame size available. The best torches are the older ones from the late 60's and back. You can get a flame almost a foot long on those things, they heat the copper very fast. The flame length on the new models is about 2 to 3 inches. Time to shop ebay.

I sanded the life out of those pipes. The prob was that my torch wasnt hot enough.

The road to understanding what the problem was took a little while.

Also the solder availiable nowdays has very little lead, and lots of tin and nickel....In the old days you could heat up the pipe and then skim the solder over it after you put the torch away...........
Also boof, check your access hole inside the wall, I smell something burning

No pun intended.....I am assuming too much maybe
I'm thinking you cut a hole in the sheetrock from the living space side of the wall, mainly because I'm assuming it's probably a freeze proof faucet(giving your geographical locale)and the elbow joint is the first connection and it can't be replaced from the outside, this is now your acces hole, and a lot of time people start fires inside the wall making such repairs. But keep this in mind; There is a 60% chance that the workman that starts such a fire will die trying to battle it.......It's some kind of "man guilt" thing
