ok, so ive been told i need a new idler arm and i think it was a steering center link maybe. just to replace them since theyre notoroiously bad in nissans and i wheel mine. do i need to really get a new IA or can i just get an iab for it and be alright?
im looking at getting the steering enhancement package from AC w/ the stabalizer and iab. would that do the trick to fix my notoroiusly loose steering?(im not having any problems w/ it at the moment, i just wanna get it done before it craps out totally)

yea that would work also check out hoohaa people rave about that here

edit that will take care of the weak steering system but if you steering is loose you should get a steering stabilizer

what is hoohaa?

hoohaa is grassroots4x4.com, they started over on XOC.

If your Idler arm is bad, then just replace the idler arm bushings. They are plastic and wear fast if you do any offroading. They are cheap though and very easy to replace.

that kit comes w/ new ia bushings too if i remember correctly, so that would be good.
what is the difference between hoohaa and ac? like should i go for one over the other?

The ac kit isn't bad at all. I'd go with it.

but it should do what i need when i was told i needed to replace my idler arm? the two mechanics i talked to both said i needed new ones, but i think thats just caues they knew the X's had bad ones. i dont know that they thought about just bracing it and putting in the bushings.

that link isnt working for me either

the part that makes the idler arm bad is the bushings. I am a mechanic as well, and a lot of vehicles don't have replacement bushings, you just change out the entire idler arm assembly. If you put new bushings in, then you will be good as new.

As for the link, it works for me everytime. I'm using internet explorer.

Yeah bro... all you need are the bushings. If you've done something bad enough to damage your idler arm itself, you wouldn't be driving it right now.

I agree with Kyle, I'd go with that AC kit because it gives you exactly what you need plus an IAB and a stabilizer. Then I would put some money aside to replace your centerlink with the hoohaa centerlink somewhere down the road.

You also NEED Tie Rod adjusters!!!!!!!! They are the fuse for the CL when it is acting funny.

Don't tell me that I did not tell you and I will not say I told you so.

the AC kit is nothing like the hoohaa CL.... just cause you add a Steering stabilizer to the CL dosent mean it wont break.... alot of peeps say that a steering stabilizer will only mask steering problems so you don't know about them till its to late.... now i have a steering stabilizer and i do plan on getting the CL from hoohaa for both my X and my pathy....if i'm not mistaken it dose away with the bushings and replaces them with race bearings but i cant remember but Dustin knows.... let him chime in and explain what is included with thekit.....

do i need the tie rod adjusters in addition to the stabalizer and iab or is that with the CL, i really dont plan on doing the CL any time in the immediate future.

until you do the CL just always keep in the back of your head to keep checking cause it could break at any given time and not just wheeling.... you have bigger tires so it puts strain on the CL..... right now im in the same boat as you cause i already have the stabilizer but since i run bigger tires and i do play in the X there is always that fear that it might snap....

The hooha centerlink is just that a centerlink. Has nothing to do with idler arm bushings. What it does away with is the ball joint ends on the CL itself replacing them with teflon lined spherical bearings. Now its also not a perm. fix either. The bearings also go bad after a while and can be replaced for around $90.

And yes the TRA's should be done with the centerlink.

thanks kyle i didn't know what was replaced i just knew he changed some things.... and thanks for clarifying the things it didn't do... but like i said just getting the steering stabilizer will mask problems with your steering if anything starts going out, so if you wheel your rig or hell you just got bigger tires then you should look into getting a hoohaa CL or equivalent...

You should probably find out specifically what's wrong with your IA. Can you shake the passenger front tire back and forth and see the IA moving around? if so, you need bushings. If it doesn't move around, bushings are fine. The mechanic could have meant that the idler arm shaft is bent (which happens when you have lift or wheel hard without a brace) or possibly the idler arm itself is bent.

Make sure you know what you're fixing before you go spending money.

And if your centerlink is worn, don't replace it with a stock peice, definitely get an upgraded version that uses bearings/bolts for the tierod connections.

I wouldn't worry about the TRA's until you go with tires larger than 32 and do more than 1.5" of lift (or decide to start driving like me) ;)

i noticed a bit of shake yesterday when i had the tire off the ground, i was doing some work on it. but when i put it back down there wasnt really any shake. more than drivers side though. im pretty sure i just need bushings, im gonna call my mechanic and see what he noticed that was wrong w/ it.
thanks for the advice tuff.

i have a 3"sl and im doing a 2" bl soon. does that mean i need new tras? they might actually be new, does the calmini sl come w/ tras? i didnt put it on, i bought it w/ the lift on already.
