: Car Show Today
matt_sr 05-21-2006, 07:17 PM Hello all, I entered my first car show of the year today. This wasn't my new Xterra, but considering some guys entered their SUV's I suppose I could've. One shot shows what a small town Waterville is, the other is a better picture of my engine bay, and one is of me and matt_jr. The show could've used more imports, there was only one today, I'd never seen what one of those things looks like under the hood.
supercharged 05-21-2006, 08:05 PM OMG I see a 69 Hurst Olds on the square there Matt!
I like the looks of your town, wish I was there drooling on that oldsmobile, thats my favorite GM muscle, I would probably cry......
Now that I think about it mechanical things have brought tears to my eyes in the past
Dear Lord, I just looked again and theres TWO of them.......there are some things you don't see down here
matt_sr 05-21-2006, 08:25 PM Yea, he's a local guy here, I can't remember his name. He owns two of them, and they're both identical. They aren't fifty footers either, they're flawless twelve inches away too.
stretch415 05-21-2006, 10:52 PM Thats the first time Ive ever heard a muscle guy say a show needs more imports.
Here is my old 95 eclipse GST. Daily driven at 367whp on 91 octane and 18psi.
Could safely boost to 25psi with some 103 for around 450whp.

matt_sr 05-22-2006, 07:35 AM The one import guy at the show was telling me about turbo boost..., I find it remarkable that the heads even stay on those things at 25 psi. At that kind of pressure you really do need a intercooler too. I had the only blower equiped car at the show, an being it's a centrificle blower, alot of people didn't know what it was. I like to see a little of every type of vehicle, I love engines, import or American, it doesn't matter. Yours looks a little more intense than the one I looked at, at the car show, more goodies on it. Alot cleaner too. I do have one question though, being that your eclipse doesn't have much displacement, how many rpms do you have to turn to make that kind of hp? Also I see you have barn buildings in the back, and MN plates, where are you up here? Waterville is just a few miles west of Faribault.

Ya it is amazing that they stay together like that. The 4g63 in the eclipse is legendary in import culture. It is around 15psi factory with the much smaller T25 turbo. Mine you see there has a T3/t4 .50 trim with a stage 6(still havent figured out the stage 6 but its the shape of the fins on the compressor wheel)compressor wheel.
The cars that really blow my mind are the ones that are N/A from the factory and somebody throws a turbo kit on. Thats alot of components to upgrade and change over and tons of money after boosting 6-8psi.
You cant really see it in the picture but there is also a huge spearco air to air intercooler tucked behind the bumper. The whole point of the car was to sleep and it did. All badges were shaved, everything was blacked out or remained stock. In fact it slept to much because nobody wanted to race unlike my older flashier eclipses. It saved gas but was no fun......
I race a few cars here and there though and it pulled through every time.
As for power I dont have the dyno sheets but Im sure peak HP was over 6K. The big turbo took about 3.5K to hit full boost and pulled super hard all the way to 7.5K. THe sweet spot was 35ish in town in 3rd gear. About a 2 second delay after the stomp and it was off like a shot.
I never did run it in the 1/4. Unfortunately it was the FWD and not the AWD(had one of those previous but with alot less hp) so it would spin even with a lim slip and 7.5" zrated rubber. Usually took 60mph+ before things started hooking good.
Thats at my home back in Lamberton, MN. Close to Windom or Redwood Falls. I go to school and live in Sioux Falls, SD but visit home occasionally. Some of my family lives over that way and I went to school my first year in Mankato so Im somewhat familiar with the area.
ggunn 05-22-2006, 01:48 PM All that import talk takes me back to my Civic 96 EX w/ vtec. I was in the process of tricking it. I had the exhuast and intake and was getting ready to work on the engine. Then one day my friend let me ride his Kawasaki ZX-6R. I was hooking on sport bikes from then on. The bike was only pushing 110 hp, but it only was only 340 lb(?). I have been hooked on bikes since that day.
Car shows---I went to a car show/motorcycle drag racing event yesterday. There was a crown vic with 26 inch rims. It sat as high as my X and the guy had a glass top in it. Not sunroof, just a glass top. It was a mess the fenders were cut back to make room for the wheels. The bike were awesome. Most Hayabusas were running 9s and 10. Wheeling in 3rd gear.
matt_sr 05-22-2006, 04:50 PM Yes, I have to admit, it is a sleeper. Probobly give my GT a run for its money. Unfortunately, mine is no sleeper, it's got "Supercharged" on both sides of the hood, and I have a tripple pod going down the drivers side "A" pillar. One of my accounts is Douglas Manu. in Eden Praire, they make all the emblems for the auto companies. They gave me a "Police Interceptor" tag for my trunk lid, which actually gets the most comments for me.
That's some thumper you got bolted on there, stage 6 is as high as they go isn't it? I knew you had to have an intercooler on that thing, at that level of boost, it's like your engine is sucking air through a heat gun. The safe maximum limit on the 302 is only 11 lbs, anything over that needs a two step ignition, half inch head bolts, and a girdled main. And of course, an intercooler. My powerdyne doesn't go online until about 3 grand, I've got a cam with a blower grind on it, so all that exhaust gets out fast, it comes online at about the same time. Third gear is really a hoot. Unfortunately, the overlap makes it idle real bad, and I don't have much in the line of braking power with no vacum.
My wife and I were in Mankato last week end for some grocery shopping at walmart, and we always stop in at the "old china buffet" for supper after that. It's a nice city, we have a branch office there, but it only rates 3 techs. I hope to be able to transfer there some day. We moved down here from Burnsville, my wife didn't want to live 100 yards off I35 anymore, or the metro for that matter.
