I was actually thinking about buying a screen but the thing the thing is I wanted a double din but I have a 5 speed xterra and the shifter is in the way. So i was thinking of moving the a/c controls to where the stereo is and but a in-dash flip out, where the a/c controls are. What do you guys think? I also tried to search for some ideas but came up empty.

I don't think anyone has tried that...or at least I haven't read about it. Anything is possible it just depends on how much $$$ you can throw at it and/or how good your fabrication skills are.
It does sound like a good idea and with the number of manual Xterras and Frontiers out there you may even be able to sell a few if you wanted to.

i been thinkin about this, but theres only one thing, the plastic that shapes around the a/c area and shapes around the radio, is totally different, i think everythig else would be okay to do , might run into probelms at that point

fiberglass is actually not as hard as its made out to be, but a power sander is a must, and its pretty expensive to make perfect...

Well I was going to cut the corners to fit the stere and then use like cut plastic or sub box wood to fill in the holes.

You also have to consider what's behind the dash. It might not be possible to relocate the HU without serious modification to the air ducts and metalwork or having the HU stick way out.

Yea I was just thinking about that a little earlier today. I was thinking maybe shortening the shifter and getting some kind of short throw shifter but that probably wont work. Also a flip out in the dame location might nbot flip out all the way. IM stuck like chuck.

I have a D3 and the shifter really doesn't get in the way. If you get a flip up screen you won't have a problem with the shifter. The shifter is in 4th in this pic but even in 1st 3rd and 5th its really not a problem.

also will the lines going to the ac controls reach where the radio is... i know you could put it in gear and then flip out the screen... i know a guy that has to do that in his chevy.... LOL

Well if the shifter is lower it would just feel weird sitting so low. But that would be it if it sat lower. Im still pretty undecided.
And wouldnt be different on the older generation x's.
