I currently have a G-35 and Jeep Liberty and my daughter is taking the Liberty in August, I'm looking at a replacement small SUV and the 2006/2007 X is high on the list - I'm happy with the VQ engine in the G-35. I ride a bicycle lot and also Kyack in the summer. My question is how well does the X hold and carry bikes in the interior and is it hard getting a kyack/canoe on and off the high roof. Thanks

Welcome to the board!
I don't know about the second part of your question... but as for getting bikes out, it carries them very easily... I have an '03 with the removeable second seat (well, the bottom removes and the tops fold down completely) and you can fit almost anything back there.

I just put my bike in the back of my X this morning and brought it to work with my. It fits well. Check out this interior bike rack.

With the fold flat back seat in the new X's fitting a bike in there is not a problem. Unlike the older models, the seat bottoms flip up and allow for enough room for the seat backs to fold flat, so you don't have to take anything out.
Ad for Kayaks on the roof. The X sits just a tad taller than the Liberty, so if you had no problems with it, then you should have no problems with the X. Side step rails (or sliders) will make it easier. Also a rear tow hitch makes a nice step for the back.
I will say, unless you are the jolly green giant, the steps in the back quarters are usless. I find it easier to step up on my slider and then step on to the tire.
The stock cross bars on the roof rack are only rated for 150lbs. If your kayaks and gear weight more than that, you might think about getting Yakima Low Rise mounts and Yakima cross bars. It will raise the rack a few inches but give you a lot more capacity.
The front roof bin is also great for your wet gear, shoes, pfd's etc.

I am short, but I see it is not just me. That back step is way too high. I just figure out the step rails to the tires thing yesterday.

Not really, is it? I did see two other guys going to work with bikes in the back.
I wish I could ride my bike to work with todays gas prices. But it is too long and i have to take my daugther to daycare.

Yeah it is.
I would ride my bike to work too, but I would have to ride through one of the worse neighborhoods in the city to get here and I don't fell like getting shot on my way home. ;)
