Has anyone ever done a body lift or a suspension lift to an X?

What are the pros & cons?

What did it run you?

Thanks!

John

i bought the Calmini Shackles(only parts to buy) for the leaf springs(give bout 1.5" lift in the rear) then i cranked up my torsion bars inthe front for the same 1.5". its very important that you have an aligment done asap after you lift it. im sure you know why. there are kits of course, AC has one for $410 but be careful as you may be sacrificing suspension travel for lift. im going to take the poor man's lift a bit further, bc i think unless you do an SAS then all your lift will come from cranking the t-bars. ive done the 1.5" lift as described, removed the step rails for offroading, and i love it, now im going to ad-a-leaf int the rear for 1.5" more and get beefier t-bars, new UCA's and have it 3" above stock. i realize that was a semi random way of explaining it, shoot me an email if your interested so i can better explain it to you dustin@integritystructural.com or ricerxterra@yahoo.com

now you can get more lift when cranking the t-bars, but then your asking for problems unless you replace the neccesary parts to maintain your alignment, ie; upper control arms etc.

Hey Ricer
Where is the best place to get Calmini products?
I had an order all ready to go for the add a leaf and a couple of little things for $90, and they were going to charge $23 for the slowest shipping....hell with that! I need several factory items as well, but I'm not doing bussiness with this nissan dealer here either...Any ideas?

i bought mine from www.xterraparts.com (xterra parts is a division of courtesynissan) they have aftermarket and factory parts here, but calmini's site is www.purenissan.com which has calmini products not available at xterraparts. you may also check www.4x4parts.com
other than calmini you can check out rancho at www.gorancho.com but thats kinda low quality imo, the best stuff imo you'll find is SLR at www.spencerlowracing.com, more $ but you get what you pay for. any more q's just ask.

Do some research before you buy Calmini products. There are products out there way better and just as much.

And no I am not a fan of Calmini. There are alot of folks in the X community that are not either. Some have had good luck with them and alot have not. Especially with their steering systems. However, their roof racks do look nice. ;)

I went with the Day Star lift for my 05.

I travel a lot on road so I didn't see lifting the X 5" to be the best for me. Maybe later on down the road.
So far the lift is treating me well and give it such a meaner look with the 33s and the lift on.

A couple guys have the AC lift and like them after they figured out the vibration issue w/ the AAL lift. Needed to add a shim to get rid of the shimmy.

I'll post some pics in the next couple days

XterraVT, Did you go with a suspension or a body lift? I'm trying to find a body lift for my 05 without any luck so far. I'd love to see some pictures of your's.

What are you looking to gain from the lift?

If you want to see lots of pictures of lifted X's, hop over to www.thenewx.com and poke around. There are pictures of just about every lift out there (and then some) and there are quite a few of us running different parts from different lifts to get what we are after.

Personally I have the AC coils up front, AC shackels and Calmini AAL in the rear.

I'm wanting to be able to clear 33" tires. I'm thinking of going with a 3" SL and a 3" body.

You can clear 285/75R16's by doing nothing but heating the plastic inner fender with a hair dryer and pushing it in.

285/75R16 = 33x11.5x16 (or close, they are actually 32.8"x11.2"x16")

Well guys, I ordered the Calmini lift. I got the 2wd front spacers to give it an extra 3/4" lift. Bringing the total lift to 3 1/4". They finally released the 5" lift for the 05 X's. $1700.00 is a little more than I want to pay for the extra inch and a half I've giving up. Anyway it should be here next week. I can't wait.

Here's the truck I had be for the X. My Ford Expedition with a 7" lift and 37" tires. What do you think?

You are going to have issues using the 2wd spacer in the front of a 4wd model. The Upper Control Arm is going to hit the shock bucket...alot. If you try going any more than 2-2.5" on the spacer you have this issue. Even the 2" Daystar kit has this issue, but only if the wheel is dropped hard and fast.

Yeah, They told me about that and said I would have to notch the Upper control arms. They said it really wasn't a big deal.

Muzikman

I would not notch the upper control arm and for them to say that's ok is carless. Where the arm hits it has a supporting bend. If you cut that bend out you create a weaker UCA and chance having it bend on you. If you are going that route, get the PRG UCA's and play it safe.

Call me stupid, but what is PRG?

Muzikman
06-20-2006, 01:00 PM
Sorry, Prerunner Greg. Well...actually PRG just sells the UCS's, they are actually made by Total Chaos.

Xterror

I just called Calmini and asked about it. They said that only the lip on the edge of the UCA is notched not the actual arm itself. So it will not in anyway weaken it. You really had me scared for a minute.

I still think it's careless...
