Well, after severly cutting my fingers on the wires for the basket removal and all those interesting events that happened on that day, I FINALLY got my PMLs done but I couldn't have done that without Justin's (Jdubbau02) help so thanks man!

Here's the X when it was stock.

Here's the X after the PML's.

I'm sure I'll be adding more pics later to this post as I add more mods in the future....but hope you enjoy it!

Looks good bro! Much better stance with just that small little increase in height.

That's a very unique look with the white b'guard. Nice little personalized twist on it. Very cool!

Can't wait to see more pics. Several of us have "evolution" threads.

Just noticed something in the pics... you're going to want to leave that monstrosity of a trailer hitch behind. hahaha That thing will drag the rocks on your departures.

Am I seeing it right in the pics? That thing looks friggin' huge! lol

TN4x4Xterra

Haha, yeah you are seeing it right...its a monster! Actually, it extends about 3 foot long from the bumper...perfect for stopping any vehicles from hitting my rear bumper :D haha.

TN4x4Xterra

Tow a few several things from yardwork to lumber, etc....its just extended longer to prevent the trailer from hitting my sides when making a sharp turn and doubles as protection from rear end collision.

No additional lifts other than the PMLs.....Yet. Next is 2" BL but first, I gotta find somebody that knows how to do it, lol. Justin did say he had it on his mod list so maybe after working on his X, I might do mine then.

Rear Bumper Update:

So the weather last weekend was really hot yet nice so I thought I would take advantage of that weekend and paint some of my plastics in my X. First, I decided that the back bumper was so badly faded and I got really tired of armoring it every 2 weeks so I just pulled it off and painted it black. I didn't get a before pic but I'm sure most of you know what a badly faded gray bumper looks like though.

Pic of Xterra metal bumper with plastic off: Really simple to pop off:

And yes, I took the monster dual hitch off, LOL.

Wiper Cowl Update:

While in the process of doing my rear bumper (in post above), I noticed that my plastic wiper cowl was badly faded too and same thing with the armor every 2 weeks, got tired of it so what I did was unclip the hood cover, take off the antenna, wiper arms, and popped those white clips, the cowl was a little bit tricky to pop off but with little patience and ease, it came off easily. I washed off the dust, dirt, grime, particles so it would be all clean upon painting, I used Joy with lift formula and it works just like 409.

Pic of the X without the cowls/wipers:

Pic of the faded wiper cowls:
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm247/samonett21/xterra/100_0718.jpg

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm247/samonett21/xterra/100_0724.jpg

Whole thing with the wiper cowls took about 3 hours maximum...the hot sun helped the paint dry fast.

Next day, put some armor on it to help seal the paint after drying out for 24 hrs, same goes for the rear bumper (post above).

The wiper arms are next on my mod list to be repainted gloss black!

Radar Detector Update:

How many of you have radar detectors and have gotten really annoyed with those suction cups that keep falling off your windshield even during hot weather?

Mine kept falling off like every 2-3 days and I just got really frustrated so I fabbed up a mount with a few metal I found around here, and honestly, I gotta say I'm impressed with it.

Here's the pic:
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm247/samonett21/xterra/radardetectormount1.jpg

Its stayed in its place and its really out of the way since its right under the rearview mirror so I am happy with it!

If you want a true mount for it, I found a company that does custom mounts for all types of peripherals (cameras, gps, radar detectors). They are here at the show that I'm doing in KC.

Nice reuse of window blinds mounting brackets (am I close?), I like the steady screw you worked in there too!
I gave up on radar detectors and speeding overall. I received 1 speeding ticket for going 60mph in a 55mph, by pace not radar, I was going 60 and the fine was like $19 so I didn't even bother fighting it and realized the radar detector was more a PITA to deal with always falling off windshield, cig lighter cord, etc.
Now I just crank up the music and take my time.

AC IAB UPDATE:

Well, I ordered the AC IAB last week and it came in yesterday so I had some free time today and decided to install it today while it was nice out. It was pretty easy straightforward job. I used blue loctite for the nut/bolts as the last step on the installation. Here's the pics of it installed.

Does the steering feel any better with those? I've never heard of anyone saying it actually changed the steering.

json3904
08-13-2008, 07:38 PM
cause it doesn't change the steering it just changes the strength of the components

TN4x4Xterra
08-13-2008, 08:59 PM
it doesnt do anything to the steering...just makes it stronger from impacts since the Idler Arm is one of the weakest links in the steerings....but if your talking about steering stabilizers...thats different story but they do help improve steering and decrease jolts from hitting hard objects like potholes, rocks, things like that.

Justin pretty much answered it....its 1.5 X 1/8 X 4' angle iron. Yes, it required alot of hacksawing but the results are perfect at the end. Be sure you hit it with rustolem paint after your done cuz they turn into rusty color fast if you leave it out unpainted.

I've used square driving lights before on my jeep and couldn't tell any much difference with the round ones...I just mainly went for low profile look and I've always been an avid fan of Hella so I kept the brand since my other lights are from Hella.

Thanks man! Will keep that in mind.

Talked to the attorney today and he said that the plaintiff has insufficient evidence against me and that he has forwarded them to the judge and I have been informed that the judge is dismissing the case due to lack of evidence/proof so it looks like I just have to pay a one-time fee for his services w/ the paperwork so I'll be keeping the X since this won't drag out out in courts.

Glad this is over before it really started and really happy that I'm keeping the X.

Haha, this is the first time we've actually had snow in like over 3 years! I do have LED sidemarkers that I installed myself. I'm not sure I've seen any LEDs for backup lights? And how bright would they be if I got those? Do you have those yet?

But have you been to CC? lol you should see the bottom of my hitch ball....last summer, I had it painted black...now its all scraped to hell and already showing rust from the rocks scraping against it.

Not sure I'd want to scrape the hell out of a $60 dollar chromed out hitch lol..maybe the black one..easier to touch up with paint but robs me of using the ball hitch.

I think the concept of the departure angle being killed badly enough to PUT YOU (With the "Hitch Step" into the "3 Point Stance" would be incentive enough to at least take it off when off road....even if its tough enough to survive the abuse, it obviously can hurt performance.

Well, I hate to joke on this but as of 3/23/09, the Xterra has been sold and I had been eyeing on my best bud's 350Z for a while and he finally decided to put it up for sale due to a baby on the way and I just couldn't pass that up so I sold the X and got this baby. I'm not leaving this forum though but will still be around. At least I'm staying with Nissan brand though...thanks to the Xterra and its reliability.

Here's my 2004 350Z Touring Edition in Daytona Blue, 20% tinted windows, 77k miles on it, pristine condition, 5 speed and BOSE sound system.

I was bored today and saw a small trail into a wooded area (I'm sure it was a private property) so I decided to check it out and thought I'd snap some pics of my X before heading out to pavement.

Yeah, I meant to fix that post, but yeah, sportsman is right, it is McAfee Park right off Virtue Rd.

Just like Sportsman said, it's now a overload parking lot for the games there...when the pic was taken, the park was in the process of being built but no excuse for my part on being that property.

Well, I finally some time to get my mods done today....got some more stickers from Creepy and Tread Lightly also too and managed to get most of the TRAs installed....will need to redo it later when I get a new CL from Richard though. I also repainted my front shrock skidplate black b/c people weren't really getting the joke when I keep telling them about why the symbol, etc etc so it kinda got annoying afterwards plus it'll be easier to touch up anyways. Also installed Blue top battery too.

No sweat, 5 years ago, installing some new brake pads on the X, the wrench slipped and that damn shield on the caliper sliced the back of my hand wide open. I could see inside my hand-guts, almost passed out. Once my blood pressure returned from the shock, out came the super glue and while I held this 2 inch gash closed, I had a relative glue it.

Yeah....super glue is your best friend when going to ER or doctor isn't an option.
One time I was helping a friend install stereos and we had to cut the wires...we used pocket knives instead....mine just flipped out of place and sliced my pinkie finger wide open....about passed out cuz I was bleeding tons....after I was able to stabilize it....super glue came to my rescue and held it in place. Didn't need to see the doctor lol.

Well now that you have revealed it! I want to make a suggestion for future reference! If you ever get rid of the hella 500's you should take the top 2 FF75's and flip them under the bar! I think it would look really cool!

But don't get me wrong I love the way it is! I have been wanting to add 2 FF75's to the outside corners on my bumper and wire them up!

It looks cool, but, personally, I have misgivings about mounting things that break in front of the things that are harder to break.

IE: You have a super strong front bumper to protect you from whatever it was you got the bumper to protect you FROM...and glass thingies mounted to the front of it...

...so if you ever HIT any of the things you got the big steel bumper was supposed to protect you from, they'd be broken?

LOL

Other people who've mounted lights like that have had them broken because of it, so, I'm just pointing that out to any one considering this type of mount position for breakables.

:D

The round ones are set back, protected...the others, well, they're OUT THERE, asking for it.

:D

When u gettin the 33's???

Not sure when right now...steering needs to be fixed as first priority then probably get them then.

looks good! im glad you held up your end of the bargain.

i think thats a first...lights mounted to your winch...wow.

I always keep my side of the bargain when one is made.

Yeah, you like the idea of how they're mounted? One of kind if you ask me! :) Best part is they don't stick out past the fairlead rollers (Pics are kinda angled view showing they look like they do) but they just stick out about as far as the fairlead rollers do which is a good thing.

Oh and.... forgot this!

So we are the only 2 xterra's in the world with the prerunner bar bumper from shrock! :D

Exactly...too bad we live on different coasts, haha! :D

.....it looks just like kuma's bumper....

Yup

.... It looks like a really heavy bolt on bumper with too many lights IMO...

For the record, it is Bolted on AND WELDED too. As for the lights, I have reasons for having the amount on there because I work on a farm and I need adequate lighting for night work.

I'm sure there are some that don't like the way other people do to their Xterras so just a word of advice for those out there, if you are not liking the way the person has spent money, effort, etc to build their Xterras, then just hit the "Back" button rather than posting un-positive comments....its just that simple :D

stevin you REALLY need some new tires now...those things are lookin wimpy!

Steering needs to be fixed first then I'll look into getting 33's but it won't be done before the NOAS run, unfortunately. That would be really pressing for time and Richard hasn't shipped it out yet.

TJ - Thanks. Good info. Might need to do something different with those lights later on down the road.

For the others that like my bumper and other things, Thanks for those comments!

AC and Moog TREs/TRAs:

I decided not to go with BFG A/T KOs and went with BFG KM2's instead. I had to trim ALOT of plastic and pound back the metal about 1/4-1/2" with sledgehammer because they rubbed a little when turning when I first got them.

Thanks Alex! I've considered taking off the FSB but my X is my DD and I travel via Interstate frequently so I'm gonna keep it on for a lil while, however, the Bilsteins shocks will more likely be my last mod for quite a while (unless one particular mod comes along for a great deal *coughs*) since I'm saving up for a 2nd car to use as DD right now.

Don't get me wrong, I like mud but its the cleaning part that is the worst PITA of all, lol....I prefer dusty roads/little mud over thick goopy mud, and not to mention, some mud is still falling outta the undercarriage from December's run at CC, and that's after hosing down the bottom at least twice lol.

TN4x4Xterra

dude do you know what the little vent things do on the passenger side rear

Yeah, they are there to keep the air flowing from the cabin because without it, the doors wouldn't probably close or if you attempted to do so w/o them on it kinda like air tight thing, plus it'd be an unpleasant loud on your ear drums if you tried shutting door without air having a way out. That's the way I read it on other threads.

silverbullet
06-22-2009, 04:52 PM
You'd possibly rupture an ear drum if the pressure that built up when closing the door could be let out. It also helps air flow through the vehicle when the vent fan is on. Without it you'd barely get any airflow through the cabin.
