Is anyone into detailing their vehicles?

On the advice of a friend, I tried Mothers claybar out on my Z, because it had a million dead bugs seemingly cemented into the paint. Nothing I tried would completely remove them.

The claybar was easy and fast to use and man what a difference. The car looks like it just left the showroom floor.

The only thing is, you will have to wax it right after because the finish will be bare. But well worth the time spent.

I used that a few years ago on my honda civic. I couldn't tell a difference, but I also kept that car in showroom condition.

So yes I am into detailing my cars and the X. But you wouldn't know it now. It has not been washed in 3 weeks. And I just drove it 15000 miles to Cocoa Beach, Fla and back.

Claybar is an amazing thing. My one suggestion is to cut it up into smaller pieces and use them.

I personally can't stand washing or waxing my cars. I'd rather pay someone or not do it at all (guess which route I go). But I am sure if I had a car worthy of being clean, it would be.

I'm seriously OCD when it comes to my car being clean..... but, for a truck there is just something about them being all covered in MUd that just looks good.

FYI to those who may be curious about useing a clay bar system.... DO IT!!! I have an '05 Xterra SE. I am insane into detailing it! I noticed that the hood was feeling a little bit rough to the touch after washing and waxing. The winters here and environment in general in New England can be MEGA tough on paint. So, I went out and got the Mothers Clay Bar Kit. What a difference! I tried a clay bar kit years ago on a finish that was too far gone so I had my doubts. The Mothers Kit made the biggest difference on the hood of my Xterra!!! Brought the color and metallic out like I can not explain! Finish of my hood is completely smooth to the touch! this is an excellent product! If I could offer one piece of advice I would say to make sure you use plenty of the detailing spray and wax directly after you clay bar a body panel. The wetter the surface the better! Just my .02 cents.

Just a thought here.....if you don't wanna do the clay bar on the whole truck, at least do it on the hatch. This is the part of the Xterra that collect ALL the crap. I try to do mine once every 6 months, but usually forget or am to lazy. Also, keeping a good coat of wax on the hatch is a really good idea.

I used the clay majic after someone did some body work on my Nissan xcab. He got overspray on the bed and it all came off. You are right though it stips all the wax off. It isn't anything a good carnuba wax won't fix though. That stuff also worked really good on oxidation. Brought back a really good shine right before a trade in on the new xterra

Hi Larry, I haven't seen you on in a million years, How are you?

BTW Carnuba wax doesnt last very long. Try the synthetic, like Meguiars Gold Class. Real nice, goes on & comes off with almost no effort, lasts a long time. If you want to see the shine, check out my Z in my gallery.

I live in the south where we have a lot of pine tree sap dripping on vehicles. I use this clay http://www.topoftheline.com/claysapovrem.html from Topoftheline.com I buy the large bottle of lubricant and save money. This site will save you money on detailing supplies. This stuff is used by professionals all over the country. They have tons of other great stuff as well.

I use the Meguiars clay bar kit on my SS. The stuff works great. Takes off bug and tree sap too.

I like the meguiars clay bar kit a lot. I have not used the mothers kit. I use it all the time on the SS. Ended up using it for bug guts on the X too.

I cant polish a car without using clay. I typically use the mothers kit, which is simple to use. Best thing I have ever been turned on to.
