I bet that was expensive and the trailer that caused it is hardly damaged.

That overhang just wasn't built strong enough in my opinion. To take a bump like that and fall down like it did. Just doesn't seem right. I'm sure the person in the truck got hurt. I would like to see the whole story.

I agree on that structural integrity flaw. He was hardly moving at any speed and trailers are built mainly of aluminum frames and fiberglass. There's no way that should have collapsed. I hope that person had enough sense to drop down into the floorboard or something because that cab looked completely crushed.

Truck/Travel Trailer Crashes Texas State Bank- July 2, 2008
At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive-In on Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground. Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller, of Garrison and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured.

According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning. Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his driver's side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle the seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling.

Mark Ivy of Texas State Bank stated that the main lobby would be open for business while the drive-in is being repaired.

Having been a truck-driver for several years, I can promise this is an easy mistake to make and very common, especially for someone towing with their daily driver because they forget they have the trailer behind them or they can get caught up watching the sides and forget about the top. It'd be nice if Travel Trailers started offering a backup cam on top of the front of the trailer for folks to remember they're too tall for overhangs.
