: Good evening from South Carolina
USC Justice 05-11-2006, 09:48 PM Good evening. New to the Xterra, but not new to Nissan. Something of a Nissan addict. Down in Irmo, SC, a suburb of the state capital Columbia.
I just traded my 00 Crew Cab Frontier for an 05 Xterra S. It was a new leftover from 05. It's Red Brawn, 6MT, power package, protection package, and a few other odds and ends.
I had it less than 2 hours and the stock radio was out. in it's place is a Clarion DVD player and 7 inch fold out screen. I pick up the step rails, trailer hitch and fog light kit on Wednesday.
Probably best of all was the amount off the 22,970 sticker, down to 17,800, and then they offered about 1500 more for my truck than the other dealers in town. That made it worth the drive. I bought the Xterra from Tri Cities Nissan in Johnson City, Tennessee. The process was smooth, and I felt well treated.
I'm working my way through the first tank of gas, and have been about 240miles and I'm still showing about 1/2 a tank left. Is that normal? What is the average range on a tank of fuel?
Anyway thanks for reeading and nice to meet you all.
I'm Donald
Welcome to the club!
I think my 06 is ranging somewhere in the mid 300's for a full tank...I think. I'll have to take a look tomorrow when I fill up. Try to post some pics of any mods you've done. One of your DVD screen would be cool. Take care and welcome again.
BOOFER 05-12-2006, 05:39 AM Hi Don
Welcome to the club & congrats on yout new ride.
You had the this 2 hours and already started modding? Sounds like you'll fit in here quite nicely. :)
USC Justice 05-12-2006, 09:08 AM Thanks, it's good to be here. The stereo stuff was an addiction from long ago that just kinda stuck with me. The other mods are things that were just necessary. I like the step rails, and have to have the trailer hitch to tow the toys to and from the lake, as well as the odd car or two.
My convertible 240SX is where the worst of the modding addiction has been spent. they only made 8320 of them new, and only in Automatic. I have converted it to manual transmission, swapped out for S14 (95+ 240SX) seats, converted to steel braided brake lines, 300ZX TT brake calipers (4 piston compared to stock single piston) 300ZX Brembo cross drilled rotors, Enkei RP05 wheels, NISMO motor and transmission mounts, NISMO sway bars front and rear, triangulated strut tower bar, and that's about it so far. :-) Next on list are new springs and struts, followed by just playing with it for a while. Later down the road (over the winter) is the SR20DET swap.
I'll get a couple pictures of the stereo stuff up in the next day or two. The Xterra is surprisingly easy to pull the dash and swap systems. I just haven't figured out where to put the 12 disc changer that also ties in with my Clarion system just yet. Anyone have suggestions? The only other real stereo changes will be to swap out the speakers for something a little more crisp, and probably a drop down screen for the rear passengers (the wife and I are thinking kids in the next couple years).
I have seen the ad information on the Ecosystem fuel filter. Have any of you used it in this application, and was it worth the funds expended?
I'm still surfing around, learning more about the X.
Thanks, Donald
Muzikman 05-12-2006, 12:08 PM Here is how my gas gauge worked before I started tossing on all the weight.
Full - 0 Miles
3/4 - 100 Miles
1/2 - 200 Miles
1/4 - 250 Miles
Light - 280 (or so) Miles
Also the gas light will come on at about 17 gallons. Since it's a 21gallon tank you have quite a bit of a warning.
USC Justice 05-12-2006, 08:04 PM Well I'm at 307 miles and still showing a 1/4 of a tank. I'm pleased.
ggunn 05-15-2006, 10:17 AM USC, I thought you said you were in south carolina not Southern Cal? JK
I know I lived in charleston for 6 yrs. Univ. of South Carolina.
Sound like you got a great X.
USC Justice 05-15-2006, 10:01 PM Well Carolina is THE real USC.
That's all there is to be said about that.
Chucktown is a nice area. I have family down that way. Where are you now? I see you are a Dawgs fan.
I'm really pleased with the Xterra I have. I'll get pics up in the next day or two. I got the windows tinted, step rails and trailer hitch installed today.
more soon...
Donald
ggunn 05-16-2006, 08:05 AM I am in Montgomery, Al. How dark did you go on the windows? How much did cost you?
The dawg fan in me is because I am from Columbus, GA.
Where are you getting the trailer hitch from? Are you going to install it yourself? I need to get on for my X. I saw some on Ebay for 80.00+30.00(shipping). I think that is a good deal.
USC Justice 05-17-2006, 09:29 PM As a die hard Gamecock (and alumni), I'll forgive you for being a Dawg. :-) My mom's side of the family all hails from Vidailia, and Lyons.
As for the tint, I had a local shop match up the tint to what was on the rest of the truck. I'm sure it's not legal, as 37 is the limit in SC, and we have 20% on the Wife's G35 Sedan. They charged me 40 bucks to do the two front windows with a lifetime warranty against scratches, tears, and discoloration.
For the Hitch, I picked it up from the local dealer. It was part of the "Due Bill" from the purchase. I did install it myself. Very simple process. I believe there were a total of 6 bolts for the hitch, and then plug in the harness. I bought and installed the last one on my Frontier from UHaul. I think I paid 109 for a class III with all the trimings, and installed it myself. I believe that the hitch is the same on the 00 Frontier and Xterra. A lot of people don't think about it, but I would urge you to check out UHaul on pricing, best of all no shipping charges.
