Well, had my first Xterra 'oops' moment.
I've used Goo Gone on the hood and most of the front end to get rid of
tons of tree sap that has rained down on my X this past month. I
sprayed it on just before going through the car wash. In the end, most
of the gunk is gone off the hood, but I can still see spots. I don't
know if I need to use soap and elbow grease now or if those marks are
permanent.
Worse: the Goo Gone has discoloured all the plastic on the front grill.
Guess it's getting Herculined now.
Any suggestions on the hood? Hell, if it stays spotted I might as well
Herculine it too!

Try using a light buffing compound then hit it with a good waxing. The goo-gone probably discolored the clearcoat but a lightweight or possibly medium grade buffing compound with a little elbow grease should do the trick.

im pretty sure you would be the first to herculine the actual grill. um as far as the discolor you could try that stuff called "Back to Black" that might work or you could always paint it. As far as the hood... have you tried waxing and buffing it real good? thats the only thing i can think of and about the herculiner. look at either "the evolution of shelby" in member rides, or "How to herculine your x" in the how to section james did an amazing and really unique job of herculining his hood. It is awesome. But hope some of this is a help to you

Could put a scoop over that on the hood? Lol...but herculining the hood would be a first for me to see and I'm sure that'll look awesome!

Sorry to hear of the discoloration.
The hoods look good when they're painted like they do on the Land Rovers. Just the raised part gets painted black. I guess it depends on where yours is discolored.

Vegetable oil is how you get sap off. I would not Herculine your grille. Just Krylon Semi Flat it.

x2 on the vegi oil and the paint. I'm not sure if you would get any visual effectsfrom hurculining the grill though.

my first boo boo on my X was when i was changing the #6 spark plug and the mosquitoes were out and i sprayed some OFF DEEP WOODS and the mist got all over the front grill and spotted it up... one day i will remove the plastics and repaint....

I would think it'd be hard to herc your grille.....just paint it black and you'll be fine.
After another wash and some buffing it's coming out. Another round and I should have it back to normal.
The plastic around the grill is toast though. Flat black may not be a bad idea...
