Just finished up my lobo rack this afternoon. i haven't gotten around to loading it up yet, but it's all done. pretty simple to put together, took me about an hour with a scroll saw and a dremmel. i rattle-canned it black to match the interior. here's a few pics of it installed-

also found this sweet antenna for the x this afternoon- i've been looking for one of those short little rubber ones to put on, since my stock one was hitting my garage roof everytime i went in and out with the lift. this one is metal, it actually extends to about 16 inches, manually, of course, but the radio works fine with it down low like this and most of the time i am listening to cd's or my mp3 player anyhow, so i figure why bother to have it up? i think it looks cooler like this.

i also finished up a little more minor trimming around my front fenders, i think i've got all the rubbing taking care of with the new 33's on. all in all, it was a good weekend of cheap/easy mods for the x, inbetween working on the bar i am building in my living room. hope everyone had a great holiday weekend

Man that bad boy is coming along nicely now. Looks good!

I just spent the last of my holiday weekend detailing my X. 7 hours for a wash, light wax, leather treatment and vacuum. I'm exhausted but damn she looks good with the new rubber on. So I've had a pretty productive weekend myself.

yeah, it is coming along nicely. i wish i had another vehicle so i could make this a dedicated trail rig, but i love driving it too much, so it will remain my daily driver, but at the same time i want it to be a very capable weekend wheeler. i see a lot of other x's on the road, and i want mine to standout in a crowd if you know what i mean. i forgot to post before i added one more really cheap mod- changed all the interior lights to blue to match my headunit/scanguage color set up. it looks pretty nice. i couldn't find direct replacement bulbs so i just used covers- in the future i'll probably upgrade them to led's, but they'll do for now. i'd take some pics, but it's not dark enough outside and we're in the middle of a pretty nasty thunderstorm as well. i wish i could change the color of the instrument bezel to match, but i've never seen any good reviews on the aftermarket gauges for the x. i had this done in my s-10 and it looked really awesome. hopefully someone will come out with a good set soon. till then, i'll have to stick with stock orange

Damn! I just now noticed that there is logistic tracks in the cargo area. Is that standard on all 2nd gens or something custom. I'm envious big time.

those tracks are standard. they're pretty awesome, make it real easy to tie stuff down in the back. there's a hidden compartment under the floor between them as well, not sure if that's on the 1st gen's or not. i've got it loaded with jumper cables, tie down straps, an aftermarket tire iron and some mre's incase i ever get stuck anywhere. the 2nd gen has a storage compartment of some sort in just about every spot they could possible put one. it was really well thought out

The only storage on the 1st gens in the cargo area is the jack well. Which for lifted X's, doesn't do us much good. It pretty much has to max out just to reach the frame and reaching the axles or crossmember isn't much better.

I was tinkering with a little storage design last night. Guess you could say I got inspired. hahaha

UPDATE!!! so i changed the old lobo rack around a little. it's a great idea, but it was rattling too much for me for daily driving. i did a little searching (i'm sorry to say that i found these ideas on another xterra forum) but they work really well. also, i changed the shelf that was in there- originally i sprayed it black with paint that was supposed to stick to plastic. worked great till it sat in the sun at work all day....then the paint started to get all sticky and come off. but, i found a better shelf at home depot, which came in grey, so it matches the interior pretty well. it has a lip on both sides instead of just one, which is also nice for holding stuff up there. here's the shelf installed-

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm232/xjohnxconx/P7120081.jpg

for the rear of the shelf, i fabbed up these brackets out of some angle iron, instead of using "d-links". killed 99% of the rattling.

on the front, the caribiners where creating the other 1% of the rattling, so i did a little work with some web strapping and some fastex buckles. it rattles no more.

here's what i've got loaded on there so far, not much, just the random stuff i had in the back- fiskars pack axe, pack shovel/pick, spare power inverter, and some random blankets.

it really helped clean the cargo compartment of the truck up nicely. the next thing on the adgenda is to built a custom box for my subs and get them to the sides of the x instead of behind the seat- it makes getting in and out of the floor storage compartment a pain, and i am always taking the box out when i need to load the back of the x up- this will let me keep the subs in there all the time but still be able to put the seats down and not lose space. i'm gonna get started on that as soon as i finish up the bar that i am building for my house, i'll have pics up as soon as i do

hope everyone's having a good weekend-

I just finished painting my new rack tonight. I was going to use carabiner clips like mentioned in previous rack posts by other members. But I really like straps u have on there as well as the dual sided rack. I just happened to have some racks hanging up out on the deck and just used that for the time being. Nice set up. I'm diggin the POW logo on the hood Nice X.

You can buy those clip straps at Walmart. They are primarily used on backpacks to fasten down sleeping bags or bed rolls. I think the straps come in 3' lengths and can be cut to adjust for size.
