Hi all,
Great site!
I'm thinking about buying a new Xterra and wondering whether I can tote my canoe on the roof rack. Anyone do this? Can you move the cross-bar far enough forward so the canoe doesn't contact the roof? Do you have to remove the gear basket? I saw a picture where someone had another rack on top of the Xterra's - is that how you have to go?

As long as the conoe is not more than 150lbs you are good.
The 150lb limit is on the cross bars, so for people who load down their roof they go with a Thule or Yakima cross bars so they can put more weight up there.
Thanks,
I figured it was set up for this kind of thing but started wondering when I saw that picture.

Do you have one on order?
No, not ordered - just waiting to get $ together. I've checked out the Jeep Liberty & Toyota FJ Cruiser but really leaning to the Xterra - but it costs more. I might wait to see what's new for 2007, too.

I was looking at the Liberty too. But there's about 4 people I work with that have them & they all complained about quality issues (synonymous with domestics) and the long term reliability reports were'nt so pleasing.
The X was rated the car of the year (in 05 I think) & it has 265 HP. That along with a few test drives and I was sold.:)
