just purchased an 05 xterra s...love it...truck has no fog lights on it and i will be installing fog lights soon- has anyone removed the factory fog light plugs, and if so, how hard of an install is it? i'm not worried about the electrical at all, just getting the plugs out- it looks like they just pop out of the bumper, i don't think any cutting is necessary. any help is greatly appreciated

Hi uncle,

There are a few threads on her that have some information. Just do a search on fog lights. Also, Im pretty sure Ricer-X has done this to his X. I'm sure he'll chime in later with his advice.

Welcome to the club!

I just ordered my fog light kit online. Walser Nissan told me that there was no way to add fog lights, and the tech didn't know if it was even possible. There's two dead end pig tails, one at each cover cap on the front bumper. Thanks for this posting, I'd never have found out otherwise.

I got my Nissan fog lamp kit installed, there's a few things I changed on the installation that made it go smoother, but it looks great. Can anyone tell me how to get around the 3 jpeg picture limit on uploads, I took some extra shots of the process.

Good news on the install!!

If you have photo shop or any other photo editing program you can edit it down to a more upload friendly size to post it!!

I normally just reduce the size of the photos in photo manager in Windows XP.

Just ordered the foglight kit and sunglass holder. If it comes in time, it'll give me something to do this weekend.

the fogs are a sinch to install...i upgraded the bulbs in mine to 100 watt hid...had to order them online, they're hard to find at autopart stores, but it made a huge difference....i can drive with just my fogs on at night and it looks like the headlights are on

I didn't realize you could run the fogs without having the low beams on. On our previous X..an 02 SE you couldn't, anyway. Checked the invoice..the fogs and sunglass visor should arrive this Friday...just in time. BTW..do the fogs come with bulbs included, or do I have to buy them seperately? The website I got them from (yournissanparts.com) didn't specify.

mine came with the bulbs....i just ordered aftermarket ones cause i wanted them to be brighter....and the headlights do have to be on in order for the fogs to be on, it's the way nissan makes all of their cars. i got a little creative with the wiring on mine and used and after market switch instead of the supplied turn signal stalk and rewired the lights to come on with just the parking lights

Damn...100W HID...they must be hella bright. The 35w HIDs I have on my mazda are damn near brighter than anything on the road..I can't imagine what the 100W lights look like ;) Anyway...the fogs and sunglass kit came today, and I'll probably install them tomorrow, as it's currently over 104 degrees outside now and tomorrow it'll only get up to 96 or so, thank God.

I have a '04 X 4x4 w/ factory fogs on it. Can you get brighter bulbs for them or do you have to replace them?

you should be able to get brighter bulbs for the factory lights....just check the number on the bulbs and do some shopping....i found the ones for my 05 on ebay pretty cheap

Just be careful with going with too high of a wattage. We use 75 watts at work and have wire insulated with thermo shielding. They love to melt plastic parts.

Installed the fogs and sunglass holder this past Sat. AM. Very easy to do, and took very little time, and the truck looks so much better with the fogs, and the road is much better lit with them on. I'm very pleased with the results.:)

so your fogs actually melted the wires, or just like the relays and fuses that connect everything? i've never seen that, but sure don't want it to happen to my x- what did you do to prevent it? thanks

At work we have heat shielding around the wire for the halogen bulbs. When the wire needs repair, people sometimes just use regular wire and it melts down to nothing. Of course, that bulb is always on. But, I have also heard of people upgrading to higher wattage headlights and the plastic housing will melt, discolor, or deform. Just a warning, that's all. I am sure you can read up on any forum about it.

hi guys i am new to this forum.
about 2 months ago i purchased an Solar Yellow 06 Xterra S, love it i had the dealer install the foglight but they did a shitty job they are all loose and they even fell off once. i keep taking them back but i keep getting the same results. i am going to have to do this myself i will see what i can do this weekend. is that what the bracket is for?

and how can you run just your foglights?

there's a complete write up on how to install the factory fogs on page 1 of this thread- just look for the link on the 1st page....it's a real simple job, i'm not sure why the dealer keeps screwing it up on you. as for running just the fog lights, nissan vehicles are built so that the headlights must be on in order to have the fogs on....i rewired my lights using an aftermarket wiring harness instead of the factory turn signal stalk so that i could have the fogs runs with the parking lights. i'm sure someone will figure out how to rewire the factory harness soon- i did it on my old sentra spec v, and i've seen it on forums for altimas and titans and what not.....just not for the x yet

Plan B to get just the fogs...just run a simple dash toggle rather than from the stalk switch...have it sourced to a relay from the battery, to the switch, to a ground, etc.....and by pass the entire OEM set-up.

:D

i think i am just going to take the foglights off, this is BS, the dealer can't do anything right, i was suppose to fix this myself but haven't had any time, and the fogs are loose again. isn't this suppose to be an offroad vehicle where the fogs don't fall off:)

The Factory lights are very easy to install...dealer wanted almost 6 bills. I bought the lights and switch for a grand total of about $250...took me MAYBE an hour, if that...to install them myself. To be honest, I never use them, but the lights look a million times better than them ugly caps.

before start to install fog light, is it nessary to disconnect battery? i saw someone did this to ensure the airbag light doesn't turn on in other threahds. but the risk to disconnect the battery is the airbag light may not go off untill you drive a straight line and turn on/off engine several times?

Any experience sharing besides the actual steps to install fog light?
