yes you read right..... i had no idea that the 4cyl was a ka24de... which is the same engine that was in my 240sx... the same 240 that i have a sr20det in.... so if i can swap that i think i can put it in the X... it was rear ended bad by a drunk driver while sitting in front of my house in texas and now is sitting in killeen texas at a friends JDM shop.... they use it as a parts car... but still have the engine as i wanted to get another 240...... that sr put over 380 hp at the wheels with my small turbo, as i never put in the big blower.... so does anyone know about the swap, how bout if its been tried before... i have the ecu wire harness everything... wow how bout a 400+ X lol

I got into the honda scene a little bit but everyone was, then i got a 93 ford probe gt for 80 bucks at the ford dealership i worked at... it was an auto swaped it for a 5 speed and built the motor and got it into the 12's on nitrous and 13's off the bottle... then got into dsm's and an all wheel drive talon then the turbo bug got me and hence the 240.... my favorite car

Hmm...

Mounting, allignment with transmission, regearing, and even making sure that the 4cyl can handle the weight of the X... Definitely a heavier rig than a 240...

wait... why do you want to swap to the 4cyl??

Because the sr20det can make more power and trq than this 3.3 ever would...... i bet the gas milage would be better and everything.... i would swap in the 240 rear end custom drive shaft isnt that big of a deal.... and if the sr can be swapped in place of the ka in the 240 i dont see the difference in the x same deminsions really

Yea, my question to. He can put the turbo charged V6 in the X if he wants. I know his motor had allot of HP but I would think there would be something that would not make this a good idea...:)

I dont know if its a good idea or not...... i have the motor avalible to me and the know how on the swap in the 240.... i wouldnt have to buy much at all i can fab the motor mounts if need but if they bolt a ka24de in it then the sr will bolt in...... i cant find anything about this online so............... maybe its not a good idea, or maybe i might be on the way of doing something noone else has tried

well it's a bit clearer! I thought you wanted to put the ka24 into the X !

what kind of torque does your sr20 make?

I dont have the sheet layin around nomore but i believe around 295 max... it needed a bigger turbo as it was way rich..... my friends with the same set up but a GT287R turbo was running 421 hp and 360 lb-ft at 20 psi i was running 23 psi but it wasnt as efficent as his

If you have a DD I say go for it! Just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it shouldn't/can't be. The X just doesn't have a dedicated following of motor swappers yet. I think it'll come as engines start to blow and people decide they don't want to spend money putting the same engine they complain about back in. At least I hope it happens.

all i have is my bike... but ima talk to my buddie that owns the shop and see about shipping the drive train to me and the rear end..... it took use a weekend to swap the 240.... so maybe the same amount of time minus the drive shaft... and i could be using the bike.... i dont know i still think about bagging my x still

you are goign to use the 240 tranny and rear end?
i think you are gonna need somethign a lil more heavy duty, like, figure a way to mate the SR20 to the existing tranny/rear end

i dont know if it would hold or not..... i got a cusco lsd in the rear end and its suppose to have beefed up axles...... i wouldnt build it to be some drag race truck just more power and maybe more miles per gallon :)

You should put one of those big-ass roots type superchargers on it. Cut a hole in your hood for it to stick out. That'd be cool.

for the engine not the truck lol.. but just google the engine and see what pops up...

its all performance stuff, it will give you more power for muddin..

I have been thinking about this forever... and never thought to search for it...

the ka24de started as a Nissan truck motor..
a friend of mine has over 300hp on a turbo'd ka24de-t motor.

i say ka24de-t because a a ka24det would mean factory turbo.. just something i picked up on browsing other forums.

the popular swap for 240sx guys with KA24 motors is the SR20DE or DET. I don't see why this wouldn't be possible... although i think a KA24DE-T would be more practical (if you already had a KA24DE truck that is)

In your case, it might be more beneficial to get a 04 Xterra 2WD with the KA24 already. But more power to you if you want to use your rig.

I dunno about swapping the rear end out of your 240. Id beef up the one in the X instead, it is built heavier already, maybe get Supercharged X gears.

I would love to see a KA24 or SR20 X for sure.

We are so much alike -- ha ha. I went from a 91 integra to awd DSM (91 galant vr-4, modded) then had a 95 300zxtt (modded) and now own the 02 X. I'm having vibration issues in my engine and have been researching which swaps are feasible for my xterra in case the motor blows up on me.

I called a shop in Florida who said they had done a 5.3l v8 swap from a tahoe/avalanche and had a motor mount kit already, but I was thinking the same thing as you, do an sr20det.

My biggest complaint has always been that I get v8 gas mileage so I want v8 power to go with it...

I have always loved turbo cars and want to get better mileage and have something to tinker with in my xterra.

If you go for it, keep me posted for sure.

I would love to see any engine swaps in an X...my first thoughts about it were to put a vg30det from a mid 90's 300zx turbo...isn't the 3.3L in the X a VG series engine? Seems you could have turbo V6 and keep your stock transmission. Then of course I started thinking about hte KA24 which naturally led me to thinking about SR20 swaps. I know a guy who has a 380whp sr20 turbo Hardbody. He also has a 4g63t Mitsubishi Mighty Max. I'll have to get him to send me some pics of both.
Motor swaps kick ass! Somebody should definitely go for it. Personally, I'd love to have an Infinity 4.5L V8 in my second gen X. Maybe when the warranty is up....

there is a link floating around here of a guys who attempted a VG30DETT in a 97 frontier.. had the motor in the engine bay and everything but i think he ran into issues somwhere.. cant remember

that would be a 99'

and he ran into issues with the dual intakes hitting the brake booster

I bet the turbo would be working some serious overtime, I could see some issues with that. That motor was designed for a light vehicle. On the other hand if you bolt up a large trubo from say Forced Performance you could recover some issues. I think a supercharger is more reliable than a turbocharger. It would pretty inconsistent off-road with the varying spooling velocities.
But if you got the time why not..I would definitely like to see this go down. Don't get me wrong I love turbo, since I have a DSM (eagle talon). Good Luck Man!!!

dont think he is worried about too much off road performance, he has a 2wd and he is thinking of bagging it remember? sounds to me like he is trying to have a more reliable/cooler DD.
