: Plastic behind front wheels
cbzdel 06-19-2008, 10:45 AM I pulled the trim behind the front wheels to paint them and I ened up breaking the top mount clips off both off of BOTH sides!!! Its a really crappy design with VERY thin plastic!!!
Anyways I have seen pics of X's with these removed and thought it looked bad but I have to say looking at it in person I am kinda liking the look with them off.. Its gonna be hard for me to figure out if I should repair them or buy new ones and put them back on...
Do these serve any propose when you have a lifted X???
Drake 06-19-2008, 10:48 AM They are mainly just a semi-mudflap to me. The guys I wheel with who run 33's all have theirs off just so they don't have any rubbing issues. When I painted my plastics I broke one of the same mounts you are talking about on my driver's side. Luckily the screws in the fender well still hold it pretty snug to the body.
cbzdel 06-19-2008, 10:50 AM I have 33's but mine are severely trimmed, but still look good lol
Noish 06-19-2008, 11:22 AM That's the same reason mine never went back on. I pulled and shook and tried to get them off then finally got pissed and broke it accidently. This just pissed me off more so I broke the other side on purpose. There's fiberglass covers you can get that mold it with the rest of the body, looks good but overpriced.

Never seen such a thing??
Gotta Link??
punkrockdrummerx 06-19-2008, 12:11 PM I think he might be talking about fiberglass fenders. I have my plastic off and some herculiner over it. I think it looks good.
cbzdel 06-19-2008, 12:16 PM Yeah I have seen the whole fiberglass fenders but I dont care much for them but a small cover in that area could look good...
I guess these semi-flaps also do cut down some on spray..
Anthony 06-19-2008, 03:22 PM Spencer Low used to make them:

cbzdel 06-19-2008, 03:33 PM I wonder.. did SLR make those himself or did they buy them elsewhere and re-sell them??
Drake 06-19-2008, 04:13 PM I believe he did that fabwork himself.
Damn I wish somebody would step up and fill the void SLR left behind. Our aftermarket selection and quality took a major hit when that dude went awol.
cbzdel 06-19-2008, 04:18 PM At least he went AWOL and it wasnt a vendor going screw the Xterra we are done making parts lol...
punkrockdrummerx 06-19-2008, 04:28 PM Spencer did not make them. He got them from Hannemann Fiberglass. They are the same ones you can buy from AC (4x4parts.com).
Drake 06-19-2008, 04:32 PM At least he went AWOL and it wasnt a vendor going screw the Xterra we are done making parts lol...
Yeah but he went AWOL and took a lot of people's money with him for orders he never finished. I remember one guy said he bought the full stage 3 lift system and never got it. And he was only one of many that lost out when that dude skipped town.
cbzdel 06-19-2008, 04:44 PM good point.. i thought he had resolved all the issues but i guess i was wrong.. last i heard he had stockpiled up parts and was going to be shipping them out but it was just going to take some time...
Kyle I looked up Hannemann Fiberglass and it shows they make the 4" bulge fenders but it does not show anything that SLR had, the 5 piece kit with rear bumper and the front pieces.. Are you sure they made that kit?? I will shoot them an email and see if they were the ones that produced them and if they are still available and what a cost is..
punkrockdrummerx 06-19-2008, 04:48 PM I know they made the front fenders, but I am not sure if they made the other pieces from SLR. I do know that he was a metal fabricator and not a fiberglass one. I have personally done some fiberglass work and belive me, its a PIA!!! So I doubt he mase the rest of his kit, and probally got it from somewhere.

x2 otherwise I would make something myself haha...
Anthony 06-20-2008, 02:42 AM I know he got the fenders from hanneman, but not sure where he sourced the other pieces. 99% sure he didn't fab them.
cbzdel 06-20-2008, 09:20 AM for these plastics are the 00-01 the same as the 02-04??
punkrockdrummerx 06-20-2008, 12:05 PM I am pretty sure they are. Not much changed there.
cbzdel 06-20-2008, 12:43 PM coolness, I am thinking if I find a set at a junk yard and dont break them its a sign but if a break them screw it lol...
glazener24 06-20-2008, 01:37 PM Anyone know what kind of bumper guard thing is on the yellow X in this pic?

Looks custom. I've never seen it before, anyway.

Looks like it would kill your aproach angle. Still kinda cool looking though.
cbzdel 06-20-2008, 04:42 PM Better pics of it...

punkrockdrummerx 06-20-2008, 04:57 PM yeah that looks like a custom piece for sure!
cbzdel 06-20-2008, 10:23 PM IMO I dont think its that bad looking.. Functional, NO, but it looks decent..
Anthony 06-20-2008, 11:16 PM Well Spencer's a desert racer, so the pre-runner type bumper would be more his style. It's definitely more than just decorative.
