: Accepted by Tread Lightly
Drake 06-17-2008, 06:05 AM Hello my CX brethren. Got some exciting news for those of us into the off-road scene.
Your mod/admin team has been focusing on "Tread Lightly" awareness and after an evaluation of our site by Tread Lightly, we've been accepted as a worthy club to help spread the word and message of this organization. After contacting Tread Lightly about advertising their message on our site (to make sure we didn't infringe on any trademarks) we were told that our site will be visited and evaluated to see if we are capable of properly representing them.
Last night we got the approval!
Look for additions to our banners that will include Tread Lightly messages. I have one of them as my signature and for those that would like to add this as well to your profile or signature you can visit http://www.treadlightly.org/page.php/education-bannerads/Banner-Ads.html
Keep in mind that CX is the only place you may display these banners as any other usage will be a trademark infringement.
On another note... We are the only xterra specific club to be recognized by Tread Lightly!
Thanks to all of our members for keeping a reputable site that carries positive messages. (Now you see why we stress the language and ethical posting on our boards.)

now THAT makes me feel all warm and fuzzy
soccerbrace 06-17-2008, 06:49 AM Give yourselves a pat on the back guys!
Ehsan 06-17-2008, 07:04 AM Wow That Awesome!!!!!!
Drake 06-17-2008, 08:24 AM To add something else, Tread Lightly is not solely based on off-roading so for members who are into other outdoor activities like mountainbiking, boating, camping etc., they have banners that you can use that pertain to these specific activities as well. Their main focus is to protect our public lands and promote respect and enjoyment of these areas for all to take part in. It is the "bad apples" who don't abide by the Tread Lightly policy that cause our parks and public lands to be closed and restricted to others.
cbzdel 06-17-2008, 09:27 AM I am going to use the camping banner since backpacking is my #1 favorite activity..
Ehsan 06-17-2008, 10:00 AM Drake after the talk we had, its funny how they want to spread the word of tread lightly but they wont allow us to use it in other places? specially when they are non-profit..i just dont get that
cbzdel 06-17-2008, 10:06 AM We are the only xterra specific club to be recognized by Tread Lightly!
I looked on their website and found:
Long Island Nissan Xterra Club(Rocky Point, NY)
Also did you have to pay the $100 club membership fee's??
soccerbrace 06-17-2008, 10:22 AM No, we did the free membership, or Drake did rather.
Drake, major rep points for you my friend!

whats not to get?
they need to make sure they are properly represented
and nonprofit does not mean its free to run
:goodjob: That's AWESOME!!!! :goodjob:

Hmmm... missed that one.
No we are doing the free membership but I'm considering upgrading it. Mostly paying clubs do the paid memberships so that they can represent elsewhere besides through media. Things like meets, trail runs, t-shirts and what not.
The free membership allows us to do everything we can do at our current capacity. In the future, once we get some other avenues opened then a paid membership will be more worthwhile.
As for "non-profit organization", it basically means they offer no services at a charge to a member. They operate on donations/membership dues to support their advertising and other needs.
If you want to represent Tread Lightly elsewhere, it is possible you could contact them and ask. It's all legalities having to do with trademarks and infringements. They don't want to be associated with someone "representing" Tread Lightly and being seen tearing up a construction site or wheeling in a restricted area.
brandonpriceco 06-17-2008, 10:33 AM I was just looking at their site the other day, nice. Good Job
Drake 06-17-2008, 12:32 PM Just found out that you can become a member of Tread Lightly on an individual level as well. For $25 a year you will gain membership with TL and currently they are having a "gear giveaway" contest for each new member.
Thought I would pass this along to everyone. I've gotten a few requests about using Tread Lightly's name outside of CX and as of right now, this is the best way I can think to use it.
For those of you who asked me about doing it, I'm waiting on a reply right now to see if it's ok or not. Might be a couple of days before I get an answer though.
X~Terror 06-17-2008, 01:20 PM Sweet........
Anthony 06-17-2008, 02:35 PM Awesome News!
LI Xterra Club is also a member I believe. A great group, one of the founders is Ken Bart. He's got one of the few X's on 35's (and still IFS).
Drake 06-17-2008, 04:09 PM I'm seeing several clubs now but I still believe we are the only "online" specific xterra club... how's that? lol
I noticed NOAS that I belong to as well as the Rockety City Rock Crawlers are paid members too. The RCRC is a local club mainly dominated by jeeps and yotas but I did get an invite to join them not too long ago.
We may push CX to the next level of membership status in the future but for right now, the benefits and tangibles we get meet our needs as an online club as it stands right now.
json3904 06-17-2008, 08:20 PM glad to see this unfold....
cbzdel 06-17-2008, 09:51 PM are their any official tread lightly stickers?? I might be interested in getting some depending on how they look.. Its funny I think that, I remember back in my Jeep days I could of cared less about all this and now I hardly offload but I go backpacking ALOT and now I realize how important Treading Lightly is!!!
Treadlightly FTW!!!
This thread makes me want to volunteer for the nations parks, but they would need to pay my gas bill to drive to them lol :)
Drake 06-18-2008, 06:08 AM OK, got word from Tread Lightly that you guys are welcome to use their banners elsewhere as well as here at CX. All they ask is that you be a respectable representative to uphold their guidelines which are:
Tread Lightly! Suggested Website Guidelines:
</SPAN>· Show vehicles on an obvious trail, clearly hardened surface, or sand<O:p></O:p>
· Never show vehicles blazing a new trail <O:p></O:p>
· Avoid use of the word "wilderness" in conjunction with motorized or mechanized vehicles <O:p></O:p>
· Refrain from showing vehicles in excessive water or mud. <O:p></O:p>
· Avoid excessive speed
DO NOT USE THE TREAD LIGHTLY LOGO! That is an officially trademarked emblem. The permission only extends to the banners like the ones myself and a few others use on their signatures. If you would like to use the official logo, it will require the $25 membership fee which for those who would be truly active, is not a bad deal at all.
We've added a Tread Lightly forum to our menu as well. I will be posting upcoming volunteer events, newsletters and guidelines here for our members to see. I've already noticed several volunteer events coming up for the Sierras in California, Moab, Utah and Ocala in Florida.
And for those wanting stickers, t-shirts, etc. this is a link to the Tread Lightly store (for those who become members, they give a pretty good discount on all of their store items):

dezurtrat 06-18-2008, 10:50 AM Awesome stuff drake!
BTW, I donate money every year to the blue ribbon coalition which supports keeping trails open from crazies trying to shut 'em all down!

cbzdel 06-19-2008, 01:59 PM Thanks for the info on the store!! if I can figure out a place to put on their stickers and not get all OCD about it I will be buying a few :)
Jdubbau02 07-04-2008, 09:04 AM hey drake, i know cc is mining land but last weekend when i was u there i noticed alot of trash, specifically beer bottles and such, but i was wondering if we couldnt get something going throught TL for cc. maybe like a weekend run, 1 day of clean up and another day of wheeling. what do you think?
cbzdel 07-04-2008, 10:18 AM trail clean ups are a good idea! i participated in a few, and it makes your club look really good!
Drake 07-05-2008, 08:21 AM I'm hoping to hear back from TL next week. I sent them an email on what we can do to coordinate restorations with them.
I know the Windrock ATV club does the majority of the trail clean-up days but I'm sure they won't have a problem with others pitching in. Maybe we could work something out with them to let us on the trails without paying for a pass, in exchange we do trail clean-up. Even if we still had to pay, it would be a good thing to do. I think I'm going to start carrying a tub/container of some sort to throw all of the trash I find in while I'm on the trails. That way I can seal it up and won't have to worry about crap leaking into my cargo area.
Jdubbau02 07-07-2008, 09:20 AM Thats a good idea, me and stevin are hopefully going to go up to cc next saturday and if we doo i will follow in your foot steps and oick up any trash i happen to see
