: Snapped Leaf Springs

Well both of my leafs springs snapped on the leaf right above the overlord leaf. My guess is that with the sway bar off and the longer shackles that it just compressed too much on the overlord with all the stress.

I sent out a request through junkyard dog for some used springs. Just wondering if anyone had any thought on being able to just replace the one leaf I neeed, or do I have to buy the whole leaf spring assembly? Does anyone have any extra springs for sale?

this is not a common problem
and its not bc of the set up either, just a random case of his leaf springs failing

Yeah I have had the problem for a while now I just havnt posted. But yeah I was climbing some snow banks and doing some wheeling where my articulation was maxed out. So unless you have alot of suspension travel you should be ok I guess. The weird thing is that the one xterra that they had at the junkyard I looked at had one of its springs snapped in the exact same spot as mine. Makes me wonder if there are similar problems with other peoples rigs.

so if i go wheeling i should watch out?

I've seen one snap before on one of my wheeling buddy's rigs but we are talking about a rig that gets run through the gauntlet everytime it goes out. The stock leaf-packs aren't the greatest by any means but this is not a common problem.

And a used leaf pack from a JY isn't too expensive either.

is that hard to do?

New OEM springs are $150-$200 ea. If I were you, I'd just get a pair of PRG Deaver Springs for $150/pair and take the 2" lift that they provide. An anti-Sway Bar won't prevent that from happening, it's more there to help ride quality while onroad and can help keep OEM shocks from fully extending as easily.

Leaf springs break. It's not an every day occurrence, but it happens.

I doubt the swaybar had anything to do with it.

Does PRG make anything compatible for the 1st. gennys? I like what I hear about the company but I thought they only dealt with newer model Nissans.

They look to be the same to me. Maybe someone could call and ask??? Ehsan, they are hard to reach but once you talk with them, you'll understand why and it's very hard to explain it until after you speak with them.

Leaf springs for 1st Gen and 2nd Gen are NOT the same.

They are different width and different length.

That stinks!!! :( I saw the same parent part# and it was hard to tell if they were different. Is there anything that was kept the same to be beneficial for modding????
