Hi all...I joined awhile back and I have learned alot from this forum already, but this is my first post.

I have a 2008 Solar Yellow Xterra Off-Road - My second one - I had an '02 SE...I'll post pics of the new one soon.

I'm planning on installing the docking unit for my Nuvi 760 (found alot of info on that here) and I have the "heat shield buzzing noise" thing happening (that's what brought me here in the first place). Anyway - I love my Xterra and I am looking forward to learning more about my rig...

Welcome to the club!!!!

So the "heat shield buzzing noise" did you find a fix or are you asking??

My plan was to pose the question to the forum about the noise, but I found quite a bit of info on it before I had the chance.

Based on what I read, I am going to try to isolate the problem by physically touching everything along the exhaust route while my wife tends the throttle to see if the noise changes. If that doesn't turn up any clues, I'll be checking in with the forum...

Thanks again...

welcome to clubX!!

i thought only the 1st gen X's had the heat shield issue, and the noise on the 2nd gens was the hood

Just a suggestion. Don't touch anything under there while the engine is running. It gets real hot. If its an 08 take it back to the dealer and let them fix it. Plus if you try to fix it yourself and you mess something up then take it to the dealer they will find an excuse to charge you for something thats supposed to be covered under warrenty. Any chance they get to steal money from you they will and still charge Nissan for the repair. I'm sure others will agree with me. Trust me!

Welcome to CX!:wink-big:

Definitely take it to the dealership and let them do all the work under warranty. And if that doesn't work, the CX majority always recommends a healthy punch to the throat. hahahaha

Good call...From the posts on this forum it sounded like people weren't having much luck getting this issue fixed at the dealership, but I'll take it in and see what happens..Thanks for the input...I'll keep you posted...

Hey all...I know it's been awhile, but I have an update on the buzzing noise from underneath my 08 Xterra...

I took it back to the dealer - Dirito Brothers in Walnut Creek, CA - and they told me that the issue was the catalytic converter...The part took a long time to come in and I didn't want to report the fix prematurely.

I dropped off the Xterra yesterday, they replaced the catalytic converter and the noise went away! They told me that a weld inside had likely come loose which accounted for the noise...Anyway, that buzzing was driving me crazy and now it's gone...

Thanks for all the replies and thanks to Aaron at Dirito Brothers...I still need to post pics when I get the time, so please stand by...
