: well tomorrows the day
Jdubbau02 06-03-2008, 09:06 PM So i have indexed then reindexed my my torsion bars and well my rear shackles finally came today and they are going on tomorrow!!!! I have to say at first when i bought my x it was just a pretty cool car. But now it is almost an addiction and i guess you could say this is my first big step towards rehab lol. Anyways i will take so me pics and post them hopefully showing future x owners that even a newby can start here.
cbzdel 06-03-2008, 09:27 PM someone got bit by the mod bug :)
json3904 06-03-2008, 09:43 PM agreed the mod bug has struck again....LOL
Jdubbau02 06-04-2008, 01:52 PM ok so not to discourage anyone that maybe be looking to ugrade there shackles but i had one hell of a time. Im sure this is unique to my x because they are all different in different ways. First off my shackles were a B*&^H to get out. I had to switch from a rubber mallet to a framing hammer. After beating the bolt and old shackle senseless, i had to file the bolt down because of mushrooming the head from the hammer. Then on the drivers side it wasnt as bad but because of the ehaust i wrestled with it for a 45 mins before it finally came out. Then to top it off the bolts for the bottom part of my new shackles wouldnt fit through the sleeves on the add a leaf. So i then spent 2 hours searching local hardware stores and finally finding the right ones at a bolt company here in knoxville. All in all it was well worth every bit of hassle because my x looks great. and as far as jacking it up i ended up putting my hydraulic jack under the center of the rear axel. it worked great. And yes the mod bug has struck bad i am ordering a 2" body lift this friday :-)
json3904 06-04-2008, 01:55 PM the reason you had such a hard time was cause you lifted it by the axle... like we said before you needed to lift it and put jack stands so you can move the axle so the bolts are easier to remove.. lol i removed my old ac shackles and instralled my old stockers in less than 15 min... sorry to hear about the trouble so when are we going to see some pics of the lift????
cbzdel 06-04-2008, 03:00 PM are you ordering a complete BL or are you building your own?? and yeah it should of been easy, jack from the frame when working on suspension.. Then use jack stands, then dont let the axle hang but jack it up a little and let it "float"
json3904 06-04-2008, 03:02 PM agreed....
cbzdel 06-04-2008, 03:44 PM jason you are such a post whore =]
Jdubbau02
when you gonna post the pics of the newly lifted rig?? and how did you manage up front? any problems??
Jdubbau02 06-05-2008, 08:29 PM ok so i had to lift it up by the axel because i couldnt get it lifted on the frame but i put to jack stands on both sides of the axel then used the jack to lift the side i was working on. as far as the front it i re indexed it and it looks great. Now the bl i am going to buy the kit from ac because i just trust it better. i am working on posting the only to pics that i took during the lift because i was so frustrated lol.

This is the point that i realized that the bottom bolts werent going to fit so i stuck my jack iron through the shackle to hold it in place while i went to get bolts that fit lol and if you look i had to take my roof rack off to beable to get it out once i was finished
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k114/elko1743/IMG_0037.jpg
this is a close up of my awesome ingenuity while going to get the right bolts i dont have pics on the finished product yet but i will post them tomorrow thanks for all your guys help!!!
cbzdel 06-06-2008, 04:48 PM that is for sure the hard way, I can see why you had a though time lol...
json3904 06-06-2008, 05:30 PM yes you did it the hard way... LOL

cbzdel 06-09-2008, 04:02 PM lookin good!!!
Jdubbau02 06-09-2008, 04:09 PM thanks man i love how stout it looks now
json3904 06-09-2008, 04:19 PM yep now add a diy BL and you will be good to go.
Drake 06-09-2008, 04:41 PM Oh yeah... lookin' like you're ready to tear some shit up now. hahaha
My recommendations for next mods:
body lift/33" tires
rock sliders
skid plates
Reason why I have the armor of high importance is because of what you get into at coal creek with so many oil-pan crushing rocks on the trails. I know of a guy who can build you a set of sliders for a decent price when you get ready for them.
Xterra Mike 06-09-2008, 04:51 PM Looks good man. I'll be there soon. Got all the parts, just waiting for the weather to calm down around here. Almost 100 today and the same tomorrow.
Jdubbau02 06-09-2008, 09:23 PM Hahaha damn drake you hit it right on the head those are the next three things i have on my list.
json3904- i dont know if i want to do the diy bl im a little worried about getiing it all torn apart and not having the right parts especially because this x is also my dd.
xterra mike- i know what you mean about the weather i just got back from pittsburgh and it was miserable
json3904 06-10-2008, 01:06 AM that's why there is a nice long how to... i am planning on doing it as soon as possible...
Jdubbau02 06-10-2008, 08:58 AM yea but if you look at it there is a couple of people who say it is not right/out of date.
json3904 06-10-2008, 10:42 AM there is one that is wrong and there is one that is right... the only reason the one is wrong is cuz they told the wrong bolt size's for 2 of the bolts....
Jdubbau02 06-10-2008, 11:51 AM well were is the right one located is it is the same thread?
json3904 06-10-2008, 03:13 PM i will look and find the right ones for you... or one of the guys that have done the lift can post up what they used,......
Jdubbau02 06-10-2008, 04:48 PM ok thanks alot man
