why would you??? I've never heard of that and don't see any reason for doing this and I'm a mechanic.

maybe i said it wrong. What i mean is putting the leafs on top of the rear axel. He said that's called flippin the axel.

if you had solid front and rear axles then yea its be fine and give you roughly 4-5" of lift front and back but it would require some adjust the driveline angles

but being that we have no solid front axle you wouldnt be able to match the lift in the front

another downside to spring-over is "axle wrap" which means basically the eaxle torques your leaf springs and warping them, this is why lift blocks are bad too, it actually increases the effect of axle wrap, id advise against it, pplus with our 2 piece driveshafts the ujoint angles would be too severe

i guess we'll leave that to the Jeep guys. What kind of modifying has to be done to put solid front axels on out X's. Thats got to be a job.

oh ok...most people usually call that spring over.

Calmini has a kit to do it. www.purenissan.com

Its not too bad and there are quite a few SAS'ed Xterras out there (SAS= Solid Axle Swap)

The spring over isnt that bad it does take some time though. You can eliminate the "wrap" by using longer perches. www.RuffStuffSpecialties.com (http://www.RuffStuffSpecialties.com) has some REALLY nice long ones.

Also if you do it right you can make your rear axle adjustable. I moved my rear back 1.5" and if I want I can move it another inch back with out too much trouble.

Notice the 3 different holes there are plates to match it which allows you to move the axle forward or back 1". The perches are about 3" longer than normal which helps reduce wrap.

You can also redo your frame mounts as well to get rid of the stock anchors... ooops hangers that hang up on rocks all the time.

I had seriously considered flipping the axle on my Dodge Durango but everyone was recommending using a Spring Over Kit instead. The engine sludged so I sold it before doing either but I would say you may want to go for a Spring Over Kit instead.

Basic Spring Over Kit....

Perches extra long to prevent wrap

HD Plates

Ubolts once again HD

Then its just a matter of setting the pinon angle and making sure your drive shaft is long enough.

If I get some time I will get som pics of my Spring over setup.

i was looking into it before I did my lift, wondering if it would be any easier to just do a AAL of a SOA and I found that SOA was WAY to much work for my skills plus I wouldnt be able to match the lift up front..
