Thanks for posting!

So Im assuming that its an electric fan? I thought all new cars had Efans?

Does the Frontier have a pulley driven fan?

The Xterra has a pulley driven fan not electric.

Wow- even on the 05/06's?, I didnt know that. I guess I need to poke around under the hood a little more & familiarize myself with the engine compartment.

Yep.

It's got a fan clutch, so it's not turning at full speed all the time.

One of those big centrifugal clutches? I really was under the impression that all new cars were electric fans.

Im currently shopping online for a OEM fit fan conversion kit.......

I am not sure what type of clutch, but I assume a thermo spring clutch. As the fan starts to suck in hotter air the spring closes a valve and starts to lock the clutch. At full lock the fan should turn at the same RPMs as the engine. When this happens you know it as it sounds like a jet engine. The last two times I was on the trail I had this happen and it shocked me. It seems that it fully kicks in when the engine temp reaches about 215º (or just short of half way up the temp gauge).

I am interested in the results on the track and dyno.

Between a belt driven fan and an electric fan?

i can't see there being much difference at the track either. as i said at
WOT i cannot feel a difference. it revs up fast, works great when you
"roll it on" and i expect better milage.

i will be posting my highway milage tonight and the dyno results monday.

Hey by the way, How did your CAI work out for you? did it make an improvement on the butt dyno?

I had an older 87 Nissan Hardbody that i removed the fan completely and it ran great didnt overheat at all either in almost 100 degree weather

i feel the biggest benfit would be for deep water ,run a switch to turn the fan motor off, etc
ive wanted to do this for my 4runner for sometime now

the military hummers have an electric fan with an in cabin power switch for this exact purpose

I pieced together an electric fan kit for my stepside, it's been great. Truck had a fixed fan, and is a lot quieter without it. I took some dual fans from a '98 Windstar and fit them to the radiator. Put each fan on it's own relay. Have a switch in cab that determines 1 fan, 2 fans, or none. Nice to be able to turn it off in the mud. But if I forget to turn it off and they hit water while they're cranking, it usually blows the fuse. I installed a waterneck that had a bung in it, and put in a temperature switch just past the thermostat. The truck used to get up to 230 climbing a slow hill on a hot day, stays around 190 now. One of the best mods I ever did. The X's cooling system, however, seems to be sufficient for now already.

I just bought a new thermostat with much lower degree opening temp. so hopefully with the electric fan set up and the thermostat I can keep the jeep cool on the trails.
