: Why does it say this in the owners manual
s1ckn3s 04-19-2006, 04:18 PM Ok so i couldnt find wher my spark plug was located call me an idiot, so i read the manual so i was reading through it and it show's wher it would be. But it also said if i had the se model with the supercharger to contact my nissan dealer about changing the spark plug why is that? I was wondering because my gas mileage suck's about 15mpg im constantly filling this baby up.

So im tryin to start doing the basic repair's myself like changing the oil, brake's,spark plug, flat tire, etc anybody know anything i can find on the net to read on or maybe sum nice less expensive place to get tire's
xterra1982 04-19-2006, 04:28 PM Depends on what brand of tires you're wanting... I would suggest though, go to firestone, or goodyear, or even *gasp* a dealership... because if you go somewhere like sears or walmart and get an aftermarket tire you're not going to be happy at all.... (even if it SAYS its a firestone, or goodyear tire... it's really not... it's not as well made)
And unfortunately tires for the size on the typical X are pretty damn expensive.. usually 550-700 for a moderately priced good tire.
Try looking around for a continental Suv tire.... they're good, and cost less most of the time.
supercharged 04-19-2006, 04:34 PM If you have a S/C the factory tire is a 265-65 17 and they are disapointing to price, I'm going to run mine till I can't get a sticker:mad: O and the fuel mileage record for me is 16.3 hwy
BOOFER 04-19-2006, 04:35 PM Supercharged engines deal with higher compression ratios, need premium gas, and special plugs - different temp, different metals.
You can go to Autozone and get the right plugs. The dealer just wants to screw you into thinking you need to buy OEM parts.

I don't know enough about nissans really to comment, but becareful... on newer chevrolets they're designed to HAVE TO HAVE oem parts on replacement, otherwise they'll either stutter and shake, or not run at all.... honestly it's all a big ploy to make people have to come back to the dealership to get things done.... even things that people used to be able to do themselves are getting harder... ignition lock cylinders have to be recoded with the computer or they won't work... pass lock sensors.. fuel pumps.. instrument panel clusters... sending units... you name it it's got a computer attached to it that has to be recalibrated.
it's not the case yet (notice I say yet...) with tires and brakes... but you'd better believe they're working on ways to make it to where things have to be recalibrated after changing... it's already the case with most SUVs when you rotate the tires, the speed sensors and tire pressure monitors have to be recalibrated to their new location on the vehicle.
it's all bullshit... but it's happening.

All GM has to do is continue to churn out crap. They're always in need of repairs as it is.
jdXterra 04-20-2006, 01:08 AM In regards to tires, I've run Remington's on my last 3 cars and I love them. My first set I was on my old Nissan NX2000... low profile. I had burned through several different "name" brands and every time it got wet... it was not a pleaasant experience. A family friend that owns a tire shop suggested I try the Remington's. It was like night and day. Driving over the mountain range I travel twice a week... they were a blessing.
I then put some Remington Wide Brutes on my Suburban. I was just as pleased with them. So much so... that when I got the Xterra and it needed some new rubber, I put another set of Wide Brutes on. Cost me about $400.

Gotta agree with ya there...
Right now I'm writing up a brand new 07 Tahoe with a whole laundry list of shit.... *shakes head*
I'm so glad vacation is only a week away....
HDFireMedic 06-16-2006, 12:01 AM Believe it or not - Pirelli's - Try the Scorpion A/T's - great All terrain tire with good road habits too, at a lower price.
Xterror 06-16-2006, 07:50 AM You should go to Advanced Auto and get a manual on Xterras. They tell you anything you would ever want to know and how to fix anything that comes up. You could take the whole truck apart and put it back together with one of these books.
Muzikman 06-16-2006, 12:10 PM You can also go here
http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/nissan/dept.asp?dept%5Fid=18
Spend the $20 for the 24 hour subscription. Download each section of the service manual to your hard drive.
You can then print out a page as you need it.
The factory service manual is much better then the Haynes manuals that for sure.
AztecX 06-30-2006, 12:45 AM get sum new tire's the tread is wearing down pretty bad starting to crack actually i got a quote on sum new one's
Look into some Hankooks (http://www.hankooktireusa.com/tire_guide.asp).
Very reasonably priced and some of the longest lasting tires I have ever used.
I have a 4 on the front drive duals on a tractor and I just rolled 265,000 miles on 'em.
No bullshit.
Incidentally, keeping an eye on air pressure makes all the difference.
supercharged03 07-25-2006, 04:02 PM I am a really big fan of goodyear tires. I currently have 265/70R17 MTR's on mine and I love them. I do understand what you mean about the plugs. they don't look that hard to do. just that the plugs are $9.99 each at CSK stores. NGK #2300 laser platinum.
The #6 plug is the bogey.
The rest are easy.
The #6 is hidden down between the engine and firewall, and, is not visible, even leaned over the engine under the hood, etc.
The trick is to first follow the boot down, and familiarize yourself where the plug is by feel...
...notice that the two adjacent plugs, in line from the front of the engine, going back to the firewall, have guide pins for the spark plug boots to clip over.
If you draw a straight imaginary line further back from theose two guide pins, they point EXACTLY at the hidden #6's pin's orientation. (The #6 pin is of course lower, but beneath that imaginary line)
I used a rachet with a universal joint and a 6" and a 3" extension, laid over the engine, and reached it straight down to the #6 plug, and removed and replaced it by feel.
X's seem to like NGK plugs, and the Iridium has been reported as very good...I did Bosch, eh, Iridium's next time for me.
:D

i think this is the reason why nissan recommends those with superchargers to go to the dealer. i replaced #6 in my dads pathfinder and let me tell you, it was a P.I.T.A! that and i found out that my dad got ripped off coz #6 was a different brand from the others. anyway, i bet that replacing it is either extremely difficult or it may require removal of some parts.....

Hey, I was here online so I figured I say Hi & welcome to ClubX. I have nothing to add, but Im glad youre here.
carphreak 08-27-2006, 12:02 AM i know its off-topic but thanks! i was looking at clubfrontier decals and i saw the clubxterra one. so i decided to take a look around. the rest as they say, is history
Naw - even the dealers just leave the #6 in there some times too.
Its just a spark plug, its just hard to get to...that's pretty much it.
:D
Good catch on the different brand...that's a sure sign they skipped it.

well i kinda understand why they skipped it. i mean if an owner goes to the dealer/ shop to have his spark plugs changed, then surely hes not gonna go to the whole trouble of checking if they indeed were replaced. man oh man i remember almost climbing ontop of the engine on my dads' pathy just to get the darned #6 out. its a good thing i got platinums, hopefully i won need to change them anytime soon......
killbill 06-08-2007, 10:01 PM I'm not sure on your spark plugs, but on your tires I have found that a 265/75 16 fits nicely. They are a bit taller and narrower than stock (at least on the o2). I just put a set of Destanies made by Cooper Tires from Pep Boys on my wife's X for a little over $400.
