I've done on a few cars. But I used an impact gun and an O2 socket. I couldnt get them out with hand tools. If they're in a difficult location, it may pay to get a shop to do it for you.

Make sure you actually need them changed though. Why do you think you need them?

If you have the Chilton's manual, there's actually a proceedure to check the voltage ramping up or down.

I wouldn't even try a job like that without the Chilton's manual.

But like he said me sure you need to change it.

My CEL came on the other week. After reading the code it stated that the o2 sensor was not reading. I've had the CEL go on and off for about 2 months now. I can get my hands on the tools that you guys talked about. Where can i get the chilton's manual

Well the odds on those sensors being rusted in place are very good. I doubt you'll be able to get them out with your standard box wrench, and you could wind up rounding the nut part off in the process.

At the very least, go to your local auto parts store & get an O2 sensor socket. It looks like an impact socket with a slit up one side for the wire to exit. I think its less that $20 bucks. Then you can try using your socket wrench.

Are the sensors in an easy to get to location?

Make sure you are changing the correct O2 sensor, also. Usually a car will have 2 to 4 of those bad boys. Not sure what the X has. But this Mazda I had - had two...an upstream and a downstream.
