So I bought a replacement fuel filter for my 2000 X SE 2wd. I was watching all this car shows on TV Truckin, two guys garage and a few others. And I thought I want to do some work my my vehicles so I chagned the fuel filter.
It was a very simple, quick and easy job. The filter is located in front of the fuel tank. That is on the passenger side of my 2000. There is a black bracket in front of the filter. You wont see the filter until you take the bracket off (two bolts). Anyway I took the filter off and changed it out with the new one. If you do this be sure to put the filter on correctly. Fuel only flows one way though the filter.
My X has over 90,000 miles and the filter show it. There was all kinds of black stuff in the fuel that was in the filter. It was nasty. I hope I get better gas milage now.
One last note before you remove the filter you have to release the presure in the fuel system. To do this you must remove the fuel pump fuse under the drivers side desk. Then try to start the truck 3-5 times. The first time it shoudl run for a second or two after it should not crank/ turn over.
