Yea i would like to put a 3" calmini s/l and steering system. dont really want to give my rims up because i really like they way they look but im not so sure if i can keep them when i am ready for bigger tires i also want a bull bar and and a rear bumper with the tire rack. there is alot more but i just have to keep looking cause like everyone else i want to make this rig mine. but any advice and to steps to take or what to do first would be welcome. my x is a daily driver so i dont want to mess anything up on it im sure i will need all the help i can get lol

It almost seems as more members go for A/C (4x4parts.com) Calmini is one of those companies where people either hate them or love them, I have yet to hear complaints about A/C.. As for the steering system a cheap alternative is the HooHaa steering kit, it made by a member, not a company

The typical first mods people do for suspension are the PML or the BL, basically together its a 3" lift for under $150.. You can find info on those in our HOW TO section...

calmini's customer service is absolutely horrid
hoohaa's centerlink + an idler arm brace is plenty good for the steering, its what i runs and its tough as hell

calmini's blue powder coat begins to flake after about a year, and they will not re-coat it for you without you paying for the shipping and the service
id avoid calmini(and i have avoided them, lol)

I saw on that "other" site you were wanting to find out what your X can do. Use the search here and look up my Coal Creek pics and videos. All of them were done when I was stock.

After this weekend, I think you're gonna be really surprised at what it's capable of. I know I was, as well as a lot of people at Windrock/CC.

welcome!!!

I second the calmini being horrid thing. And I have had nothing but GREAT service with AC (4x4parts.com). But maybe thats because when I call, Volrick answers and knows the sound of my voice and can talk to me on a first name basis, meaning that I shop there too much. I have even tried calling with my caller ID blocked, and he still knows me. lol.

thank you cbzdel and ricer-x for telling me about calmini. i choose that company based on the fact that it seemed like everone had one and i had read the reviews and they we to mixed to decide if they were good or bad.

I don't know a lot of people who have gone right out and bought a complete kit so I honestly couldn't tell you. Most I've seen did it in 2 stages. First a PML which is merely replacing your stock shackles with lift shackles and cranking the t-bars. That's 1.5" of lift. Then they add-a-leaf and buy new upper control arms which gives them another 1.5".

If this thread gets too long and in depth, I'm going to move it to another location. That way if members search for similar answers, they can find it easier. We just try to keep this area strictly for intro's. It's no biggie... just helpin' out the searchers. lol

It's no problem bro. Like I said, it isn't that your asking questions (ask all you want man... that's what we are here for), it's just to benefit other members when they search for answers. Let's say they want help with a lift... they are not going to search the New Member section to find an answer. No what I mean?

And no worries on CC. That park is too big to completely take in. I've been there a few times and still have only scratched the surface. It has 160+ miles of trails over 78,000+ acres. And Tuff said he has a couple of noobs coming as well so don't worry man. I'm going to pick up my cb and hopefully have it installed this weekend for the trip. They are really handy to talk to the group or if you need help from the recovery squad. I've got a couple of 2-ways in case you or anybody else doesn't have some type of communication.

Well you are welcome to use one of my 2-ways and the other can go to the trail leader. That way if something happens like if you get stuck or have a breakage and need to stop, you can talk to him and he can relay to everyone else and stop the party.

Right on man. I'm going on a small run this weekend to test out and make sure my rig is good to go for next weekend. And I will see you guys there!

I'll be in Oliver Springs that Friday night. Thought about camping near the park but I may crash at an Econolodge or something right down the road.

Depends on if I'm able to get my "surprise" in time. Got some stuff on order but not sure if it's going to make it before the weekend.

If it comes in, I'll probably get there around 7:30 a.m. so I can tweak a few things. If it doesn't, then I'll get there around 8:00 a.m. Tuff and the gang will probably get there between 8:30 and 9 he said but he's usually just after 8. He hasn't been late on me yet. Can't vouch for anybody else other than him and Andy though. lol

Probably picking up my cb tomorrow. I found the cheapest place both on the net and in stores at a friggin' truck stop! They had a cobra that I was looking at for $10 cheaper than anything I've found online.

ok sounds cool. ill try to be there around 8. is there a place i can meet you at around then?

Drake

Yeah man. Just meet me at the Snack Shack. It's a little building on your left as you enter the park. That is also where you will have to get your park permit too. They quit selling them at the local gas stations like they used to for some reason. I think it's $15 a day or something like that.

I didn't get my surprise, had to hold off so I'm back to runnin' bald tread I guess unless I pick up some new AT's before I leave. Still trying to find the time to get my cb and install it.

Tuff got his bearings in today and is finishing up his air-locker install so he should be good to go. He says he's gonna take it easy but I know better. lol No worries though. He knows the limits of the stock and won't drag us somewhere that you or I may risk doing some damage.

How far are you willing to push your rig? I have a really good trail in mind I would like to do and it's doable stock because I did it in the pouring rain BUT it's got some hairy spots and if you miss your line it could be bad news. But it's a friggin' blast! I think the parts I'm thinking of have a bypass trail though.

See ya this weekend!

i mean i trust your guys judgment with the x cause u guys know it alot better then me and i will try whatever you guys think i can handle as long as youll guide me. but yea if you have a trail that you want to go on i will cause it seems like there really is alot that the x can do stock. but anyways i said think i said it on the other forum but i adjusted my tbar last night and i wanted you to take a look at it and see if i did it right and got the maximum height i can get out of it but in the process of doing it my hand slipped off the wrench and i back handed the frame and broke a bone in my hand hahahahh

Yeah I just read that over on the XOC. That's a bummer man. If you search "Coal Creek" here, you will see the pics of my past 2 runs there when I was bone stock and there's some videos in one of the threads too. It will give you an idea of the stuff we get into. But like Tuff said, this is more of a test run before the actual NOAS run so he isn't going to get too crazy. It really depends on how muddy it is as to what I want to try but my favorite so far is Trail 22. It's about 6 or 7 miles with some good hill climbs, creek crossings and a few rock gardens. Good mix of stuff and doable bonestock.

When we get there, I'll check your bumpstop clearance and we'll tweak it if we have to. Outside of that, you'll be good to go.

Just an update bro... it rained like hell all this week so I never got to install my damn cb. I'm hopefully picking up 2 extra 2-way radios and I'm gonna try and tune all 4 to the same channel so we can spread them out amongst the group. I also picked up a 30,000lb tow strap so we will have all the recovery gear covered so you don't have to worry about that.

Load up on pain pills and take care of that arm and I'll see you about 8:00 tomorrow morning and I'll check over your rig for ya. And if you haven't already, ditch your rear swaybar. We can do that onsite if you need to. I've got my trail tool kit with me.

Oh yeah... don't forget your camera!!! We all carry one so we can get pics/videos of everybody. Usually just video footage.

Alright man im pumped. I cant wait to get there in the am. Ill take the rear sway bar out tonight and see if i cant make my grandma a nice windchime like you said hahhaha. Anyways thanks for everything and do i need to bring anything at all? It seems you have it all covered but i just wanted to make sure. see you tomorrow
