Another bad idea...

I was a member of another forum and they had an area called "The Wasteland" it was a NWS no-ruled, basicly non moderated OT area, you could say anything, and post anything.. It actually brought the forum alot of traffic, not sure if its the trafic we are looking for but its just another one of my stupid idea... The Wasteland eventually became more popular than the standard OT.. Then later they shut it down to the general members and made it a members only (voted in only) area....

even though i would love to have this section i have to lean away from it due to the fact we are a family site and there could be children on this site like jman... if it got out of hand and nudity, porn, flaming..... ect then it might force some members to steer away from the site..... and since we want to keep the same free site where nobody is left out the we wont make a members only area.. like i said its a good idea but the mod team has discussed this before and it didn't go well....

fair enough.. i guess even a disclaimer about the area and being a member only to access it even has a chance that certain members will get out of hand or carried away...

topic dropped...

Yeah Gary mentioned this to me and I thought long and hard about it. I do like having an area where you can cut loose and it's no hold's barred but I've seen this with another club I've been in and it didn't have a real positive effect down the road. What happens is exactly what Jason mentioned. You get a butt load more traffic which is great for the site BUT those topics bring in the more "outspoken" types and what goes on in that topic area eventually makes its way out into the other forum topics.

Pretty much it would get to the point of somebody asking a question here and somebody giving a response like "go f*** yourself" basically. These are the ones we are not wanting to welcome in here. I'm as big a smartass as anybody and very short-tempered and although not here, I have lost my cool on a few other pages because of A-holes treating other members like shit just because they asked a simple question.

All of us love to flame when the opportunity arises but the positive "open arm" atmosphere is what I'd like to see stay in tact. Where members don't have to be on the defense when they post.

I know publicity wise as far as hit counts go and moving up the google ladder, this could help but I'm more about the "quality" of members right now than the "quantity". And right now I think we are doing pretty damn good.

I think once the cards hit the streets we will see real growth. Faster than it is now.

I'm not gonna say there's no chance of it happening but for the immediate future I'm not so sure. There are quite a few things we are really working on... well I say we... Dustin and the other guys are... lol

I'll put this idea on the backburner but I wouldn't call it dead. It's a good idea for traffic but IMO, we're still working on the foundation of this pyramid.

You've got some good ideas Axion and I like you're thinking but I like to know that for every change we make here, we are already set up for the benefits and or repercussions. I don't want to unleash a tiger until I know it can be controlled. Know what I mean?

one fo the other forums i used to frequent ran into legal trouble bc a 16yo kid gained access to the "black hole" and was caught by his parents
as much fun as it could be guys, the risk IMO is not worth it, theres plenty of adult material elsewhere on the interwebs to justify taking that risk here

all you need is a disclaimer right?? i mean my parents couldn't sue playboy when I was under 18 and found one in my dads closet haha

I am not defending my idea of having one because I understand its not the traffic we want but I am just saying lol...

Speaking for myself here:

I do not like this idea at all. I just do not like the idea of nudity on a public site, or a disclaimer to come on an Xterra site. I do not like the discussion of sex, illegal drugs, or the illegal consumption of alcohol either.

I think that is what it would come to honestly. If you look at XOC, they actually have nudity there and there is no disclaimer or anything. Any old Joe could go on there.

I agree Chris, that you cannot stop people from entering a section that is NWS, but I do not think that Clubxterra should provide an arena for this.

I like the fact that there are a few active female members on here, but I do not like the idea of running them off, or too much discussion of a vulgar conversation.

All of this is just considering a worst case scenario of course.

I just do not think that a majority of the community would agree.

It is hard for a newer member to say no after seeing 2 active well known members say yes. So I personally (and I should not have any more say than any other members) am against this idea.

I think you have a good point there soccerbrace....
I like the ambiance of the site, I really do not want to get out of control here. I want Club X to be a positive place to be,
I do not want to be know as a pervert Club haha.

I'm not going to mention any club names that I've already seen this happen to because I've got enough posts here doing a good job of that as it is.

Since I've been a member of said club, I've seen the A-holes spread their interest into other areas of the forums and I spend more time getting pissed off at their replies to simple honest questions and problems than anything else.

For example:

A member introduced himself and said he was interested in lifting his vehicle for appearance looks. He stated he was not into offroading as his X is in mint condition and wants to keep it that way. The replies he got were "Welcome. If you're not offroading then you have no reason to lift it." followed by another ripping him for the same thing.

It's a regular thing there. It's immediate flaming to any post and then the thread gets hijacked into a full on BS debate that is totally off-topic to the original posters thread.

Needless to say, I recruit these guys for CX. We make it a point to respect all owners and not just offroaders. If you want to put 20's on it, so be it. It's your rig. Build it how YOU want it. Not how someone thinks it should be done.

This is my immediate priority when I moderate. I don't want ANYONE bashing other members for any reason. We don't go and ban people for it but if it's a repeated "offense", I may just pull the trigger on ya. lol

I know this is a bit off topic but this is the type of aftermath that can follow a "seedy" topic area. We all want CX to "blow up" so to speak and I think it's doing just fine as it is. Let's make CX hit the next level by doing it the RIGHT WAY.

Respect all of your brethren here.

I'll step down from my soapbox now.

Agreed again!!!!

I really truly want CX to be a really friendly place as well and it IS!

It's all about diplomacy here. Every time a moderator here goes and posts on another site, then we are scrutinized and highlighted because of our status HERE. We are all ambassadors of CX when we post on other sites. I personally, and Drake as well, have been in some big defending contests over there defending 2wd owners, and the like. In fact, my reputation went down after that. I put a suggestion in the site suggestions section requesting that the buy and sell section be public like ours is. I actually lost the sale of seats because of it and how non user friendly the PM system is. Then upon request, I got ridiculed and disrespected left and right.

I LOVE what we have here and I wish that I had more time. I am a busy bloke.

On the new CX card, I want to emphasize saving money.

You go to that aforementioned site and people are not saving money.

If (let's be stereotypical here) a Christian woman wanted to come on and ask a question and the "wasteland" was at the top of the recent threads with nudity inside, do you think that she would want to ask her question anymore?

No, therefore the problem that could have just meant, oh yeah, you just have to put some grease on your turn stops turns into a mechanic charging her 1500 to change out the CV's both sides and to replace the wheel bearings and such.

That cannot and will not happen.

People are new and using a forum is foreign to them. A lot of people are not aware of a search button. The other moderators and I have agreed that if one member gets out of hand, then the next moderator will handle the problem because we as a mod team want to come off with a friendly demeanor.

Case in point, we want more and regular members. We want members to feel welcome and at home. Having a "wasteland" IMO would be the antithesis of these ends.

Again, Chris, this has absolutely nothing to do with you, it just has everything to do with the topic at hand.:)

VERY WELL SPOKEN!
Not to metion we now have brand new chapters and regions!!
Not only are we ambassadors on the C/X but out in the publics eye!!

The moral foundation that C/X leads the net in is exactly what will help double the clubs membership in the next 6 months!
