: The Most Expensive Meal
BOOFER 04-15-2006, 12:37 AM What was the most expensive meal you've ever had?
My friend & I were discussing this...
My story, I was on a business trip down south and I got taken out to dinner by the client, who was an attractive, older woman. I let her pick the place since I hadnt ever been to the city where we were.
Anyways, cut to the chase, we had Filet Mignon, Shrimp something or other, cocktails, dessert, then the bill came. They gave it to me first but she jumped on it like a starving wolverine. I did get a glance at it though, it was $306 dollars and change not including the tip.
I thought that was over the top but, then she invited me back to her room at the hotel which had a jacuzzi. She ordered some kind of booze that I signed for that was $180 dollars a bottle.
There's more details than that but to sum it up, that had to be the most expensive meal for me, ever.

probably the most expensive meal I've ever been a part of, was last April when my better half was having the "White Coat Ceremony" for school.. where they offically give you your white lab coat, pin you and make you take one of those damn doctors oaths... and the inlaws came up and a couple more relatives to celebrate... we went to a restraunt here in town called "Fertitas" which is a big mucky muck place... there were like 6 or 7 of us all together, and I caught a glimpse of the bill before my father in law grabbed it away, it was somethingn like $745... and then I saw him sign a $150 tip for our waiter (who WAS awesome, he deserved it).
Glad I wasn't paying for that one :)

When I read this I actually said holy shit! when I saw the numbers. My wife came in to see what I was amazed about.
$150 dollar tip? I dont care how good the service is. I think the whole concept of tipping sucks. Dont get me wrong, Im not a cheap person, I just dont think that someone who is is slightly above the mentality of a Beagle should get $150 bucks just for bringing a few plates & drinks to the table.
xterra1982 04-15-2006, 07:04 PM lol.. I disagree... I believe in tipping. No matter where we go I always tip well if the person is A) effecient and friendly, or B) just plain nice and jokes around with us... if they're an asshole who's bad at their job I still tip, I just don't over tip :)
I believe in over-tipping.... I mean, they're wait-staff for Christ sake... they don't make a ton of money, have to deal all day with assholes, and have to be on their feet.... maybe I can just relate with the on your feet and dealing with assholes part of the job... :) Hell, I tipped our waiter today at lunch $20 just cause he was funny... lol.... noone will ever accuse me of being cheap.. ;)

That sounds like a conditioned behavior...
Hey I like to eat good but I just wont pay that kind of money. I am a cheap ass. Anyway you know what really peaves me is these places when you eat out and they throw in the gratuity and don't tell you then they send the bill back out for you to sign their copy and add a tip to it. I have gotten where I ask them if gratuity is included and what percentage. If I thinks its enough then I don't add anymore. Sometimes if they have been really great and deserve more I will add a pretty good bit especially if they are someone I get regularly. I like knowing the people handling my food like me. LOL

BOOFER 04-16-2006, 03:51 AM My wife took me to this restaurant last weekend. It wasnt a fancy shmancy place, just a nice place. When I go out, I order food like a kid in a candy shop. We had a Greek pizza, Giros w/tzaziki sauce, appetizers, drinks - the whole 9 yards. I was stuffed. Then the bill came. $32.00.. I was floored. That was the most sensibly priced meal I've ever had. It was crazy delicious, and the service was cool.
Conversly. we went out for Mexican food awhile back, had appetizers & the main course and the whole thing was like $75 bucks.
Thats alot of cash for Doritos & bean paste.....
matt_sr 04-16-2006, 11:03 AM My wife and I don't get to eat out much, it gets expensive with 7 kids. Every other friday, my wife and I go to the Bears Den in Elysian, just a few miles down the county highway. Thats our time away. Tell me if any of you can top the following. My wife and I were married 11 years ago. We each had kids already, and no money at the time. We bought matching rings at wards for 150 bucks apiece, a small wedding cake, and got married at a church that was an account of mine in Chaska. The reception was in my apartment. We did the whole thing for about 800 bucks.

7 kids? holy shit! I wouldnt want to be you when it comes time for college tuition......
I dont have kids, but I live vicariously through my coworkers. They all seem to be broke and in debt for years.
I wouldnt want to exist just to support my offspring.
I dont wanna live forever, I just wanna live while Im alive.:)
matt_sr 04-16-2006, 12:50 PM You see part of that yellow suv behind my Xterra? When we go out in battalion strengh, we travel in both SUV's. And no, kids really aren't that expensive. We started out dirt poor, and even then, everyone had food on the plate, and clean sheets. Jump forward to today, we have 3 more than we started with and as you can see, I even manage to have a toy to play with, and we're by no means wealthy. My older kids have jobs, and two of those are deciding which branch of the military they're going to join when they graduate.
