Hey by the way, What are youre impressions of Japan?

Japan was really cool around the Tokyo area. But I lived on the northen tip of Japan in Aomori prefecture(kindly like a state in the US) in the city of Misawa. It is a very small country side type of town. It was really boring. But if you get out of the area there were a lot of places to see.

See the attached pic. I took it at the Misawa City Festival.

Did I mention it snowed 6-7 feet a year. Temps are 30-60 all but 4-6 weeks a year when they reach 80. There was no A/C in my area of Japan.

Benjamin Franklin Gates descends from a family of treasure-seekers who've all hunted for the same thing: a war chest hidden by the Founding Fathers after the Revolutionary War. Ben's close to discovering its whereabouts, as is his competition, but the FBI is also hip to the hunt.

I like comedy or ass kicking movies.

My tastes run from Dave Chapppelle to Robert Deniro.

(more on the DeNiro side)

The new King Kong is pretty awesome. It's a little on the long side - like most 70's movies. But if you have 3 hours, go rent it. My wife & I got lost in the movie and it never lets go of your attention.

On my street, I only rent a movie every 2 months. Thats because when a neighbor rents a flic, they pass it to us, then we pass it to the next one & so on. The last family with the movie on the due date returns it.

Kinda nice huh?

We bought Nanny McPhee a few days ago and watched it. If you've got kids, this movie is a hoot to watch. Very funny.

Anyone see "Half Past Dead" with Steven Segal? I just got it. Wondering if it's worth watching.

Also got "Today You Die": by Mr Segal. Its gonna be a hot one here up north and a have a TV out by the pool. Wondering if they're worth the watch.

I also wanted to resurrect this old thread for new suggestions.

Thanks.

Oh by the way, Half Past Dead is damn awful. In my opinion, the only reason you watch a Steven Segal movie is to watch him kick ass, which never happens in this movie. He has the acting skills of a glazed donut.

Anybody see Pirates of the Caribbean?

meXTERRA
07-31-2006, 11:11 AM
Yes, it is funny. Johnny Depp does good. Although it is just a 2 hour advertisement for the 3rd movie. As you porbably know, don't expect closure at the end.

Muzikman
07-31-2006, 11:41 AM
Both Clerks II and Pirates are good.

Pirates: If you don't like cliff hangers...wait until the 3rd one comes out before seeing the 2nd one. It's a good movie though. You will want to see the first one before the second one as well.

If you want to laugh until you pee your pants, go see Clerks II. I will warn you though, just like many of Smith's movies...it's a bit over the top. If you get offended easily, you might not want to see it. Also, DO NOT take your kids to this movie. We got there quite early and as we are sitting in the theater a family walks in with like 3 kids, none being out of elementry school I don't think. This was not the movie for them.

You gotta be as blind as Anne Frank not to see it.

pirates was pretty good...even if they did leave you hanging for the 3rd flick...anyone see miami vice yet? i saw it this weekend...thought it was pretty decent...not as good as it looked from the previews, but worth watching

Anybody see Pirates of the Caribbean?

Yeah Pirates was ok.....I thought there was more "comedy" than action, but it was still a pretty good movie. Sets it up nice for the 3rd one.

Oh and if you see it, If you have the time, sit throught the credits, there is a scene at the end.....

Saw Clerks 2, was a riot, but of course I Love all of Kevin Smith's movies.....There was an older couple that walked out on it about 30min into it....DO NOT TAKE KIDS!!!!

Lady in the Water was a bit dissapointing for M. Night......

MIAMI VICE has a lot of action, although the only reason they called it Miami Vice was the name of the Characters, it didnt have any of the 80's feel at all.

I have seen Superman Returns 3 times, it is my fave movie this summer!

Cant wait until "Talledega Nights" comes out, will ferrell is awesome!

I loved Pirates, except dont like the fact that its a cliff hanger.............
I didnt get to see the scene at the end though, I didnt know it had one until now.
I also just finished seeing "Derailed", at first I thought it was boring and predictable, but then they switch it up it was a good movie.
Im going to go see "Talledega Nights" tonight!
Just the fact that the character "Ricky Bobby" has sons named "Walker" and "Texas Ranger" is hillarious!!!

I'm a bit of a tough sell on movies, so keep that in mind. Also, I just got married, and haven't seen too many movies recently. :-/ Some of my favorites, and some recently discussed:

Pirates 2: Not bad, but it didn't have the energy or pacing of the first one. This one looks like Jerry Bruckheimer "tweaked" it - lots of silly stunts, action sequences carried too far, and such. It did leave me hungry for the third one, but didn't have the cool factor of the first.

Steven Seagal: Sucks. Not only is he a horrible actor, but his martial arts aren't even that good. It doesn't help that he's a real sh!tbag of a person in real life. Don't even get me started...

If you want real no-BS martial arts, find the Thai release (not the American one) of Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior. No stuntmen, no special effects, no strings attached. And a character named "Dirty Balls".

Little gems that are often overlooked:

Dog Soldiers - A group of British soldiers on maneuvers runs into a clan of werewolves, resulting in a movie that reminds me of Aliens, Zulu Dawn, and Night of the Living Dead. Great film, great one-liners, but you may need subtitles, as the accents are a bit thick.

Boondock Saints - My art-house friends tell me that their whiney movies really make them think, but they only make me think, "damn, but this is boring". :) Boondock Saints makes you think, specifically about vigilantism, not as in, "of course, we can't do that", but as in, "why the hell not?" Great film, great one-liners, great message.

Thirteenth Warrior - Remember when we had to read Beowulf in high school? This is that story, as told by a wayward Muslim. The two prayers in this film always give me goosebumps. (Ahmed's: "...I beg only to live the next few minutes well...", and the Viking prayer, "Lo, there do I see my father...")

OK, I'm rambling again...

Woody

What did you think about the ending?? My G/F said she hated the movie just because of the ending and said it was to predictable.. I was like yeah it was BUT whatever it was a perfect ending, if it happened any other way it would seem to "hollywood" and not "real life" I dont think it could of ended any other way...

I can tell you NOT to waste your money on "I Am Legend". To say I was disappointed would be a gross understatement. It would have made a good book but man they sure F***ed up the story with that movie.

I myself dug "Hitman" big time but I'm also a huge "Hitman" gamefan too so there could be some bias in there.

As for myself, I can't wait to see the new Jet Li / Jackie Chan movie. Jet's my favorite actor/martial artist practically of all time. I have everyone of his movies going back to his old stuff in China done by Golden Harvest and still trying to figure out how to get "Legends of Shaolin" over here. hahaha

Sorry... I'm a martial arts / MMA freak!:brettschlag-big:

The "dog scene" is what did it for me. I can't watch that kind of shit in movies. It started out really promising but man it just left me hanging. You're right... the ending blew which for me just shot the rest of the movie.

Wait for it on FX! hahaha

I was "emotional" for about 20 minutes after seeing that. That shit hit close to home. TOOOO close to home for me.

I have Hitman on my coffee table right now. Great movie. I am legend is alright but not when you go with a girl who contemplates the movie for weeks. "But how did....." And "how could......" "Is it possible....." "I don't understand how..."

Overall, I am Legend was did not reach the benchmark that is set for me with the previews

Drake

Maybe that's what made it so bad in my view. I had it built up along with the media as being Will Smith's next "Independence Day" but didn't live up to the hype.

Just got back from forgetting sarah marshall and holly shit that movie was FUNNY!!! Its kinda in the sick twisted humor catagory, like as in the 40 year old virgin.. It was great though.. And it was about 2 hours long to which I found strange for a movie of its style.. The ownly downfall to the whole movie is that is shows alot a frontal nudity and its strictly all the P and not the V if you know what I mean haha...

Seen "Dont Mess With The Zohan" the other night.. It was freally funny but not great the movie was basicly about a racial war which was pretty drawn out in my mind.. Dont get me wrong it was funny but IMO not worth the $19 I spent on (2) tickets.. It would be worth a rental though..

Oh also seen "Indiana Jones" my first thought was I thought X"-Files" came out in a couple months, then once I got used to the story line it was like a typical Indian Jones movie, I like it, worth my money, I will buy it when it comes out..

Movies I want to see that are coming out soon:
*X-Files (watched every episode and the first movie, read the books and beat the video game which was filmed in my town!! being a big fan hardly describes me lol)
*Step Brother
*Hancock
*The Happening
