Just go all out and buy a Shrockworks bumper. :)

Go with a Shrock or Calmini bumper.

This poor lady rear ended my 02 X a couple years ago and all I got was a baseball size dent in the bumper and she had a brush guard on. At first she only thought she bent the guard a little and then I asked if she had been in an accident before. She asked why and I pointed out that I couple see her engine thru the kink in her hood.

She ened up with a $3000 repair bill not including my bumper cost.

She needed a bumper, D-side headlight, Hood and D-side fender. We were in stop and go traffic and hit me at 5 to 7 mph

Joy of a good bumper: I was about to parallel park my Scout, and had no rear bumper, when I looked in the mirror only to see a sweet young thing disappear under the tailgate as she waved to her friends on the sidewalk.

CRUNCH!!

It pushed her hood into the radiator and fascia.

Her damage: Hood, radiator fascia, rad cap, rad opening, maybe fenders, grille.

My damage: Fresh scratches on the exposed frame, minor (1" x 2") ding on already bend fender cap.

:D

brush guards do more harm than good!! The give you a false sense of security too. If I were you, I would pass on getting one. If you really want something, get a schrock or ARB that is actually going to offer some protection. If you are wondering what kind of protection, I will try to find pictures of Kegley's (a member on another board) frontier after it was rolled several time and went through a telephone pole. Only thing left on the truck was the front bumper. It is what contacted the telephone pole. If it wasn't there, it would have split the truck in half and probably killed the driver (Kegley sold it and it was the current owner that rolled it.)

Back in highschool, a friend's mother had a Pathfinder with (I think) a stock brush guard. She had someone turn left into her on a 1way street - the guard saved the right side of the truck!

I would imagine it depends on the brush gruard as to how much they help.

She had a side-mounted brush guard? I'd love to see a picture of that setup.

My 'new' XTERRA was involved in a minor accident before I bought it. The previous owner said she reared some one while coming to a stop. Apparently little damage to the other vehicle but the impact caused the bar to damage the X's hood. Now I bought the vehicle and the replacement bush is on order. I think I'll sell it and get some off road tires as I currently have the Michelin XLS M/S. Which are great on highways but I doubt they'll be good on the forestry roads where I drive my rigs.
