i mean really, what the hell, ive been talkin about it for years,
i would buy it in a heartbeat if someone finally made it
No shiz... I just pulled my basket off to lower the friggin air drag!! I'm thinkin about fabricatin somthing for it... Its just useless with out a cover!
There is a company in Medford/White City oregon called Highway products http://www.800toolbox.com/ that might be interested in designing an aluminum fully sealed basket for the 1st gens and I know the owner real good I might talk to them the next time I'm down and see if he can design one for the OEM aftermarket...
Is this somthing that you all need? :chainsaw:
cbzdel 04-14-2008, 11:15 PM I just want a lockable lid not a whole new box, I like having the vents in the bottom, it works good to store wet stuff in, I just HATE that damn net that that clips onto it to hold everything in...

To much liability with an add on roof to a used basket.. They won't go with that but they would look at the entire box with vents for airflow... and possibly holes in the bottom for drainage...
I used to design for these guys and worked in sales so I kinda know what they would and would not do... Diamond plate lite guage saltwater resistant paintable... with left or right hinges and piston hood style lifters.... Easy !! and would mount right in place of the factory basket...
cbzdel 04-14-2008, 11:26 PM that sounds expensive, what do you think about an estimated price?? something like that sounds to make almost $200 or so worth of fab work...
AXION 04-14-2008, 11:29 PM that sounds expensive, what do you think about an estimated price?? something like that sounds to make almost $200 or so worth of fab work... Couldn't say... the materials would be around $40 to $60 with the latches, hinges, other metal for mounting the shock risers.... Packaging and shipping?....Hmmm.. then the profit margins?....
I would just have to guess around $120 to 160...? but then again I'm not the owner...
json3904 04-14-2008, 11:49 PM when i bought the X it had the basket but as soon as i got it home i removed the basket since it blocked the view of the moon roof.. LOL
AXION 04-14-2008, 11:54 PM Ya...loose it if ya don't use it! This is somthing that can be used for off road-wet items like C.B. said and for X-TRA lite gear that ya wanna lock up....
pvfjr 04-15-2008, 02:59 AM Any of you first genners have a pic of your basket? Did they all come with them? I don't think my 2000 XE has one, but I would like to have a basket....
I'd probably fab my own lid if I needed to.
jman2000 04-15-2008, 09:37 AM Mine has it and I don't use it. All the ones I looked at to buy the people had taken them off. I don't want to have it take up the whole trunk though.

This sits in place of the try on the top of the rig. and None have been produced. Look at my first post and click the link of a MFG that might take on the OEM project for 1st gen X owners...
pvfjr 04-15-2008, 10:49 AM Oh, and FYI, I WOULD be interested in the product. All depends on the price though, $120-160 would probably be doable.
cbzdel 04-15-2008, 11:50 AM Most I would pay for it is $100, if any more than that I would cut and mod up a 2005+ box to fix the first gen lol...
woody 04-15-2008, 11:54 AM I would be interested in this as well. Can't think of a better place to store some stuff that may or may not be needed while wheelin'! That would save precious cargo room in the back.
cbzdel 04-15-2008, 01:34 PM I need a good place to hold cut 2x4's because I cant use a high lift because I dont have any armor and my stock jack it TINY lol....
ltfiresteve24 05-08-2008, 08:47 AM This is an idea I have come up with along the same lines. I am looking to purchase the Shrockworks rear bumper with all the add-ons and move my spare from the factory location. What I would like to do is have a sealed box (possibly round or shaped like a tire) made and mount the chian to it for additional storage (like jumper cables, tow straps, etc.) that is not used often. Of couse, you would have to put some type of rubber stops or something since it would be metal to metal.
Gay, do you think this company could come up with something like this? Anybody else have any ideas?
Steve
AXION 05-08-2008, 09:03 AM I'm not GAY... YOU CALLIN ME GAY...hehehehehhehe
I noticed the other day how the roof cargo bin is formed to curve over the top of the gen1x.... I see this as an expensive build!! lots of layout and setup with will equil more expence...
When I get some of my admin duties cought up on the c/x I'm going to build a top cover that you pop rivit to the front slope of the bin...
Then it will be an extension to help the wind deflect over the entire bin and cut down on the drag that I get at the rear of the bin as it sits some 2" higher and does nothing but catch air.....
If I get a notion I might just build a custom top with piano hinges and make this a top box with a latch lock at the end of it...
I might fab these for you guys if you like my prototype...
Split rubber tubbing works very well for rubber bumper stops on any edge metal I found as well..
GAY... I MEAN: GARY.....lol
X~Terror 05-08-2008, 10:42 AM Hey Gay

AXION 05-08-2008, 11:25 AM No problem Steve... lol......
Xterra Mike 05-17-2008, 07:42 AM As soon as i got my X i took out the basket. In the winter i put it back on. I don't like how it looks without the basket but i like to use the moon roof so i leave it out.
cbzdel 05-17-2008, 10:17 AM x2 i think the X looks bad without it...
theonenonlykyler 05-17-2008, 12:41 PM ya seriously all the basket did is piss me off.. it looked wierd and i couldnt open the moon roof so i took it off as soon as i bought my xterra lol
pvfjr 05-18-2008, 11:06 PM ya seriously all the basket did is piss me off.. it looked wierd and i couldnt open the moon roof so i took it off as soon as i bought my xterra lolStill got it???? I might wanna work something out. My '00 doesn't have one, but I'd like to have one. Don't have a moon roof, so no issues there. The 2000's did come with one right? Should bolt right on?
json3904 05-19-2008, 12:26 AM i still have mine... and yes the 00 came with them...
