so when i bought my X in Feb 2007, my cluster would die at random times throughout the day. this problem happened periodically for many miles at a time. so one day i took out my cluster and sprayed contact cleaner on all the connecting points. worked for a day or two lol. than a few months ago, it stopped dying. well it's back again. short of blowing my wallet for a new cluster, is there anything else i could do? i posted this on XOC when it first happened and i didn't get the answers i was looking for. so any suggestions?

I know when James gets on later this afternoon he will have better information cause his was doing the same thing, but this is what I remember.

There is a fuse behind the dash that may continue to blow out causing the gauge cluster to quit. I know after he placed this many times it start to short at the transfer case. Yes, the transfer case. There is a wire that goes into it I believe for the 4wd hi/lo. Anyway, it runs on top of the exhaust pipe and can melt over time. I do think this is where James' problem is right now. Check for that wire underneath and determine condition.

um.. there was just a thread... um it was the X that was in the flood and getting rebuilt thread, his gauges were not working and it showed how he fixed them and ran a self test on them.. I believe its in the members rides section..

i thought he just got a new or a used cluster, but i'll check it out, as for the wire near the t-case, well, i dont have a transfer case. so would that wire or cord still be in the same place?
