: Introduction/question
Runner 04-02-2006, 08:48 AM Hi,
Just got new Xterra 2006 X, basic model. It is manual (what I was looking for) but don’t have any options (I did not want to wait for a manual with the options). I was told that I could add the options that I want later on and I liked the idea to be able to do that on my one pace and just with what I want.
That was my introduction and I already have a few questions.
I have a question about the brakes. It feels kind of low to me but I am not sure if it is my impression or not. The dealer from where I got the car told me that it looks fine.
Here is why I am asking the question about the brakes: With the car parked when I press it, the pedal touches the floor and I was told that no brakes should touch the floor. That it is a sign that the brakes need do be check.
Any input about this?
Another question is about the upgrades. I plan to add alarm, power doors/locks and windows to it. Has anyone done that? How was ? Any suggestion?
Thanks !!!

Welcome to the club!
Dont waste your time & money trying to add stuff on later.
Your brake pedal shouldnt touch the floor. If it does, your brakes need to be bled.
Im sure Xterra1982 will agree that car salesmen are the lowest form of human shit on the planet. Never believe anything they say.
Anyhow, I wish you well with your new X. Come by often, were a motley crew of X heads here, and, we could use another... :)

Your brake shouldn't reach the floor, ESPECIALLY when the vehicle is off... it shouldn't move at all then, the hydraboost should take over and bleed out the excess air.
If your brake moves excessively take it in and have them checked, more than likely just need to be bled.. as Boof said.
The easiest check for the brakes is when sitting at idle (engine running) and in drive press the brake down to where it's holding the vehicle and no further, then slide your other foot underneath the brake and see if you can lift that foot up and down.. if it's a tight fit, they're too far down. If you can move your foot easily, then they're right. :)
And yes, car salesman are human shit... but Service Consultants are God-like... :D

You know, I had alot of different foods over the course of my life but I dont think I've ever had pot roast. I'll have to ask the wife to make that one of these days.
xterra1982 04-03-2006, 07:41 AM Really? I guess Pot Roast is a southern thing....
Pot Roast cooked in an oven bag for a couple hours with quatered potatoes, carrots, and onions, and gravy... mmmmmmm :)
Ricer-X 04-03-2006, 10:16 AM i also think its a southern thing, also "counting mississippi's" appears to be a southern thing, altough its sure to catch on nationally due to all the misplaced gulf coast residents

Then why do they call it "Yankee Potroast" ?

Muzikman 04-03-2006, 11:03 AM In the New X's the break peddle is very very mushy. I thought that there was something wrong, but they all do this. The peddle doesn't go to the floor, but it does have a decent amount of travel.
As for adding power windows and locks after the fact...good luck. Not only would the parts to do so cost you a fortune, the work to do it would be a PITA. Although, the wires might be run already, so that part might not be too bad.
You should have looked at another dealer, or had your dealer look around and find you one that had the option you wanted.
Runner 04-03-2006, 07:53 PM Thanks you all for the tips. I will try to check the breaks as suggested and lets wait and see. (The dealer told me that they are all kind of mushy as Muzikman said.)
About the power stuff, it is something that I am thinking about but it is not a necessity.
Right now, I am just enjoying my Xterra. It is all that I had thought that would be and more.
Thanks !!!
