I finally picked up a Z today. '93 Z32/ na 5 speed. 120k on the motor. Unfortunately I have extreme buyers remorse because I know I paid more than what the car was worth and 5 hours after actual having the car I'm starting to get problems.
I'm sure you all hate getting the same newb questions but my problems start with a simple fill up at the pump.
I used premium gas as it says I should; after I started the car back up the exhaust sounded much different (its aftermarket). Drove a round a little not thinking to much of it, and kept getting a slight smell of gas (that I blamed on the aftermarket exhaust).
I went to one of my later classes and when I was driving home it got a little jerky. While accelerating in 2,3,and 4th it jerks forward. Seeming like a misfire but I'm no mechanic.
I know the car doesn't have the OBD II, but will I still get a "check engine" when I have problems?

General info; The car ran fine before the fill up and was just above "E". To my knowledge the car has not been sitting, but who knows. Could it be a build up of old gas?

Any info or ideas will helps.
Thanks.

I would blame it on bad gas. Siphon out all the gas then put new gas in and see how it drives.

Yeah, bad gas could be the problem...Go to a large name brand company like Chevron or Shell after siphoning most of it out.

I also added seafoam to the tank before this happened too. but it couldn't be the seafoam because it happened way to quick. No way it could have spread through the tank that fast.

It is also a good idea to keep your gas tank above 20% to 25% full because going lower allows for condensation and moisture to get into the tank. Especially when the weather is going crazy. High to Low. I had that problem when i went to fill up my stratus that had been sitting for 2 months. Drove fine then got gas and everything went to shit.

First, change the fuel filter, (big silver guy on the driver fender). Second, has the 120k service been done to the car, if not get that done soon. Also hit up a forum for the Z's 300ZXClub.com is rather quick with answers but if you dont 'fill out your profile' they'll heckle you to death. ALSO, look in to Z1 Motorsports- there a pretty good shop for Z's though their customer service suffers in the summer months.
