hey guys, i had a thread earlier but i cant seem to find it. my ac is going crazy again. pretty much, i turn it on and i have to wait maybe 20 min for it to get going. when it works it works awesome. which makes me feel like there isnt a leak of some sort. but after 20 min or so of it being on, it will go in and out intermittently. any ideas? i replaced the sensor under the glove the first time and i thought that fixed it but i guess not.

hhhmmm not sure about this but i think that if u just start your car and it hasnt beeen running that u need to run your car for a while to get the ac and heat to kick in. but if your engines been running for a little it should kick in immeditly

ps: but then again im not completly sure just kinda goin off what i think in my head lol

Is that sensor under the glove the Thermo Control Amplifier?

~$28 part?

I have intermittent AC as well - not sure what to do about it...

Do you have suggestions on how to replace that part? Never been under that area (novice when it comes to wrenching, but willing to tackle any job). Suggestions, advice, diagrams, etc. would be MUCH appreciated.

yo, its really a pretty easy task. all you do is take off the 4 screws that hold the glove compartment on and its fairly easy access. just look at the shape of the new one you bought and you should be able to tell where it is.

Will I be able to see the AC Evap (whatever that is) and notice where the Thermo Control Amp is plugged in? I'm game, just never dug around in there before.

i dont know about the evap (dont know what it is either) but you should be able to tell where the tca is plugged in. i found it in about 15 seconds

Is it easily accessible once the glove box is removed?

Any advice appreciated...

The guy I PM'd over at the other site said I would have to remove a bunch of plastic that was holding it in...same area you would insert a microfilter for the blower...and he needed to push the plastic aside and use a long long needlenose pliers to get to the plug.

Sounds like I will be able to reach in and pull it out, and replace the plug and be done with it.

He also had a 2000....oh well. I'll report back once I get the part.

OK - just took delivery of the THERMO CONTROL AMPLIFIER that came with a little black tabby thing that I assume is intended to secure the red end of the TCA somewhere...

Will let you know what I find when I pull the glove. Maybe I'll even take pictures...

For those following, if any exist, I pulled the glove compartment and immediately saw where the thermo control amplifier plugs (TCA) in. Unfortunately, the wires run directly into the black box I assume is the EVAP and after taking off all of the screws I could find, I couldn't get it opened so as to pull the old one. I couldn't even see where the red portion of the old TCA is positioned, let alone remove it....just the wires coming out of the EVAP box...

SO - I unplugged the old one, left it in the EVAP box (if that's what it really is) and plugged in the new one, letting it run into the glove box.

Now, I am guessing that this is merely bypassing the old TCA, since it is not properly situated to be affected by the temps in the EVAP box (if that is what it does). BUT - it appears to have solved the problem, as the A/C has turned on each time I've tried. We'll see if over time it continues to work each time.

Anyone have suggestions on how to get into that box to remove the old TCA and properly install the new one without breaking any pieces of it off?
