i am just curious about how reliable xterra's are and about how long they usually last people before they have to start fixing major things ( trans., motor, etc.) also i want to do a pml on my xterra just to give it a better stance and wanted to know how hard it is to do on your own and if will affect my gas mileage. i would also really appreciate it anyone could post pics of their xterra before and after doing a pml so i can get an idea of what its gonna look like. thanks! :thumbsup-big:

Honestly I haven't read any topics about people having to rebuild a tranny or anything and I've seen some guys go 230K plus on theirs too. As with any vehicle, if you keep the maintenance up, the vehicle will keep up with you.
The PML won't affect anything mileage wise.
Here's a link to a thread I posted right after I finished mine. It has several pics in a photobucket gallery.

your fine until you add bigger tires and armor then your millage will go DOWN quick!!! reliability is great, a few minor problems such as cracking exhaust manifolds, nothing $$$$headers cant fix :)

when you say add armor would that include a shrockworks front bumper and sliders because i was planning on adding those to the X.

ya those will hurt your mpg simply bc of their weight

There was once a debate on RONIN about mileage vs. lift. The thought there was that raising the vehicle increased drag. I disagreed based on the same about of mass is being presented. One is not adding anything to change that.
I do agree that more weight and larger tires are the biggest detractor to gas mileage, but I didn't buy the Xterra for gas mileage.

as far as mpg vs lift
judging based on physics
i think at speed you should get slightly better mpg due too the fact that air passes more freely below the truck than before,
example, ever notice how after you lifted yoru x, when you pass over a bunch of leaves or grass clippings the wind from your truck dosent really move it any mroe when previously they would fly all over the place?
i do believe it hurts your mpg at initial acceleration bc of the weight shifting more drastically due to higher center of gravity, same affect could be said for braking and cornering, if it hurts your cornering it hurts your acceleration and braking(ll exept vehicle width)
woot, and all that off the top of my head!
