After looking through your forums a bit I still have questions re: my 2006 s 4x4. I'm interested in installing new rims and tires. What I basically need to know is whats the back spacing on a stock 2006 s 4x4 xterra. I want to get the american racing mojave rims. They're 16x8, right now the stockers are 16x7. I'll probably buy 265 or 275 tires. I read the 33" is the tallest without mods. True? Also is the bolt pattern 6x5.5? Does anyone fore-see any rubbing problems with a 16x8 rim and a 265 or 275 tire? Thanks.

No worries... got it moved to the correct forum for ya. Welcome to CX!

6 on 5.5 is the bolt pattern for the 1st gen X's ('00 to '04) and I believe that the 2nd gens are different but I could be mistaken.

Yes it is true you can go up to a 33" tire on the 2nd gens without any mods although you might have to do a "melt mod" for a little trimming to prevent any rubbing issues.

Do a search on the "melt mod" and see what comes up and it may also answer some other wheel questions you have.

Stick around, make an introduction and post some pics!

Yes, it is and you can definitely go with 33 under there

No matter where I look it looks as if I'm gonna pay no less than a thousand bucks for rims and tires. Anyone have a favorite place/website they get their stuff from inexpensive?? Also any other companies make a comparable tire to the BFG a/t series? Thanks

Also what is anyone's experience with TPMS systems? such as putting them on the new rims and keeping the light off??

I am going through Summit Racing to get my wheels and tires. Keep in mind the smaller the diameter of the rim, the cheaper the rubber is going to be.

At Summit, I can get 5 15" Cragar Soft 8's and 5 Interco's for close to the same price as putting 4 Nitto's on my 17" rims.

As for the TPMS, can't help you there. I monitor my tire pressure by kicking the tires.:mocking:

tpms light : i have read that alot of people just put a piece of tape over the light, also the will pull the cluster apart and pull the bulb......

as to cheap rims... the bolt pattern on the 2nd gen is a rare pattern so they will be more expensive

Yeah, I'm not too interested in a hack job, I think I'll wait out the summer and right before winter I'll see whats around. Maybe something'll come out. I'll just focus on putting new shoes on the Chevelle. No TPMS there!

I agree with everyone on this thread. Finding a wheel upgrade for a second generation X is hard to do. For example:

2007 X Offroad Stock:
- 16" Diameter wheel
- 7" Wide
- 6 x 4.5 Bolt pattern
- P265/75R16 Tires (= 31.6")

I'm having the hardest time looking for a wheel/tire combination. Right now, I am looking at the following:

- Motto Metal MO951
http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa193/yeuki/Motto.jpg
- 18x9
- 6 on 4.5 Bolt Pattern
- Offset = 30 mm
- Back Spacing = 5.18 in
- Hub Bore = 72.6

For the tire, i'm looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler 285/60R18 (= 31.6")

I've been working with a lot of people, but no one has been able to give me a definite answer as whether this wheel/tire combination will fit on my xterra without rubbing... if not, do I need to add a 2" lift?

not trying to copy you or anything but i am going to need some new tires within then next year i'd say so could you send me a link of what rims and tires you recommend?

it all depends on the offset and the back spacing.... the overall diameter will be fine since you can have up to a 33" tire with no lift on the 2nd gen....

hey man- i just tried to order those rims for my 05, all the web sites said they would mount up to an xterra.....until my local shop got on the phone with their wheel distributor- they will not fit. they don't make them in the proper size. just a head's up on that- there are very few wheels out there right now that have the correct bolt pattern for the 2nd gen x's. i finally found a set that will mount up, i'll have some pictures of them up in about a week- i don't want to ruin the suprise of what my x is going to look like before the lift and wheels go on. here's the info i will put out there though-

you'll be able to run a 33" no problem, especially with a 2" lift.

bolt pattern: 6 x 4.5" (this is the problem, it's an odd size....hopefully there will be lots of wheels coming out in this size)

i went with a 17 x 8 wheel, +2mm offset, and 4.517 backspacking

and yes, you will pay a little more for wheels for this truck, since they are so hard to find. hopefully by the end of the week i'll have some pictures up that'll help, i'm putting on PRG's 3" kit, 17" wheels and 33" toyo open country MT's.....needless to say i can't wait to see what the x is going to look like

Thanks for the heads up!!!! That's exactly what I needed to know. It's unfortunate that wheels are hard to find for the 2nd gens. I will be looking forward to what you come up with. Also, thanks for letting me know what will fit!

haha...the rockstar is a pretty sweet wheel, but i think the smallest it comes in is a 20"...that's a little too bling for my x even if it were to have the right bolt pattern.

i stole this link from thenewx.org....hate to use a post from another forum since i've always been a club x guy, but it'll help give you an idea what some of the 2nd gen folks are running on their rigs

hope it helps...

interesting, i'm looking at that site and those guys have found some wheels that i don't even know about...

alot of those wheels are for wheeling and they keep the same size as stock or a little bigger...
it really just depends on what you want... if you want bling then you are going to have trouble finding them....
