: What am I gonna do with this thing????
lbishop 12-22-2011, 10:05 AM Alright so i picked this POS up yesterday for $1000 (not the xterra lol). Its a 93 jeep cherokee with 226 thousand and some change on the clock. Its got a 6 inch rough country lift, nearly new set of 33x12.50x15 maxxis bighorns, and a tube front bumper. Now the downsides:
1: 2wd
2: Burns oil (alot)
3: leaks oil (its a jeep)
* I figure keep the tires and rims, the front bumper, the cd player, and scrap the rest of it. Not gonna get all my money back if I keep the tires though.
I dont see it worth doin a 4wd drop swap, do yall??? any input would be awesome.

AaronsX 12-22-2011, 10:25 AM If it is actually half decent off road I would keep it as a trail rig, cause I wouldn't be worried about scratches and body damage if it was on the trail rig and not my daily driver.
You could swap your X's tires with the jeep's tires...so the 4x2 will turn the smaller tires in the mud faster. Unless you don't want to keep it at all. I would part it out...I doubt it would sell like it is being a 4x2
lbishop 12-22-2011, 11:10 AM I considered keepin it as a trail rig, but after I took it to a local spot we play in the mud at, let just say she had a hard time lol. Its hittin stuff wide freakin open to make stuff the xterra makes in 2wd drive easing through. Plus whoever hacked up the fenders did a god awful job. Its gonna start rustin in no time.
My parents have a jeep cherokee and said they wanted some parts off it. So I'll probably pull the tires, rims, stereo, front bumper (Might try to rig up on the x), and watever parts they want off it. Im not sure if pullin that rough country lift off is worth foolin with or not.
I know some people that run a scrap metal place and they told me when i bought it was worth at least $500 in scrap. so pull all that other junk off and i think im alright
xearth 12-22-2011, 11:20 AM Second on the trail rig.
The cherokee is really light and easy to yank around with the X. (on the trails at least) Maybe work on the leaks, do some trails with it, then see if swapping 4WD in would be worth it
xearth 12-22-2011, 11:21 AM Haha, just kidding, saw your most recent post...
M3C.CA 12-22-2011, 11:26 AM Not a half-bad lookin Heep. I was actually going to say the fender hacks look pretty good judging by the third pic. Shame it's 4x2 otherwise you'd have a nice trail beater for hard wheeling if you didn't want to risk damaging the X.
For sure pull the wheels/tires and sell those separately if you aren't keeping the Bighorns for the X. Also, if you do end up scrapping it, I'd pull the RC lift out first... Probably wouldn't be hard to sell on Craigslist, not sure what you could ask for it though.
lbishop 12-22-2011, 11:39 AM Like lookin at it looks like they did good jod cuttin on the fenders and would have if they hadn't have pulled all the plastic wheel liners and stuff out. first mud hole i hit with it yesterday filled the interior full where it came in from where the doors and liners are cut open.
Anybody think that front bumper could be fabbed up to fit on the x and look pretty good??
how bad do yall think the 4wd swap would be to do??
AaronsX 12-22-2011, 11:47 AM The engine in it has to be worth something...I know it has over 200k miles but its a inline 6? which has some pretty good pulling power. I was watching top gear or something where they used a jeep cherokee inline 6 to go up in a tug of war with a brand new tundra and the jeep pulled it almost instantly.
A few things; The Engine is virtually indestructable. It will leak like a bastard, but it's a seven main bearing engine. Bomb-proof. The tranny is either an AX-15 (5-sp) or an AW4 (auto), either way pretty beefy, the auto is extremely robust. The rear end is either a D44, a Chrysler 8.25, or a D35. The first two are pretty good axles, the last is garbage. As far as 4x4 swaps go, the cherokee is pretty easy. The best thing you could do would be to pull everything from one junkyard vehicle. You will need a D30 front axle, T-case (along with the linkage), drive shaft, and the 4wd tail housing/tail shaft for the tranny. That's about it. Everything will bolt in. Personally, I'd part it out as much as possible, especially the lift as I feel you could get at least $300 for it, and then scrap the rest. There are a LOT of people that wheel and DD cherokees, which means there are a lot of people looking for parts.
lbishop 12-22-2011, 03:40 PM alright its settled goin to pull a part in knoxville to hunt some 15 inch rims to mount those maxxis tires on. My x is currently rockin the 16s.
Anybody think that front bumper can be rigged up and look good on the x??
I think I seen somebodys rig on here rockin a tube bumper off a cherokee
*Already had somebody offer me a $1000 bucks for it lol aint had it but 2 days
honestly if you have the space to keep it as a project, jut pull the tires off it and toss 'em on the X, then throw a 44 under the front and put in a transfer case and necessary adapter, weld the front and rear, toss some cheap 35s on it, pull the doors and hatch off (sell 'em) and have a good budget wheeler
if your favorite wheeling spot is nearby, you can probably squeak by either driving it to the trails or getting a tow dolly and towing it with the X....it will be a little hard on the X but its doable
Xterror04 12-22-2011, 05:48 PM Id clean it up a bit and put it on craigslist for $3000 lots of people love the 2 doors
ShiftingSkys 01-18-2012, 10:45 AM Lol, you could do what Xterror says. It really depends on what you want it for. I think you should do a little bit of freshening up and resell it maybe 2k alot of people buy trail rigs bu t know nothing about them and overpay for them.
