Hi guys,
Am new in the forum and just got a 2001 model-fairly used though.
I just discovered that when I move the car , the temperature gauge goes up and the car overheats. I opened the bonnet and heard 'boiling" sounds in the radiator and the plastic overflow. Please what can be making the car overheat. I live in Nigeria (tropics). The radiator is a single-cell and I have being driving it even before yesterday. The radiator fan moves.
AM WORRIED

there is a whole list of things it could be, just to name a few, clogged radiator, bad water pump, bad thermostat, collapsed hose (dont know if this happens with the X, it happened to my jeep all the time)
Changing the thermostat is the easiest/cheapest to repair, you can actually test if the radiator is clogged if you take off the hoses and stick a garden hose and turn it on.. If it flows freely you are good, if its hardly coming out there is a problem.... I cant think of any tests for the waterpump...

not sure how you can test an installed thermostat.. i know if you take it out and stick it in boiling water is will open up, i have never tried it myself though...

:aufkopfhauen-big:ok, i heard you the first two times!!!
lol... just giving you a hard time, let us know how the radiator swap goes, if that doesnt fix it my bet is on a broken thermostat as they go out more frequently than water pumps...

Thanks pal! You were right!
I pulled out the themostart and found out it was bad and rusty-blocking the flow of water around the engine. I also changed the radiator and moved around with the car. The overheating is no-more.:engel-big:

Now the other issue.
My steering oil leaks and am told it is the seal that is broken. If I do change the seal do you think the leakage will seize finally or will it relapse after a while. Do I change the complete steering pack?

you gotta find exactly where its leaking from before we can answer that
i had mine leak from the line that passes below the fan shroud on its way either to or from the radiator
