for the length you could get under there with a tape measure... as to the size i do not know what it is for the 2ndgen....

are you really going to attempt a DYI exhasut when you know nothing about an exhaust?? save youself the time and hassle and take it to a muffler shop and tell them you want duels... they will probably ask you how much you want to spend, becuse they could make it true duals, the could use the stock y pipe or make their own, they could use a single in dual out muffler or then can even keep everything stock and just weld in another pipe to your tail section, hell they would just weld an exhaust tip to your bumper to make it look like duels...

Duals on your truck will kill low end torque. That and there's no way to get it on the other side without taking your spare out.

I don't like the magnaflow exhaust on the new xterras. It's too quiet. The gibson stuff actually lost power on a dyno.

Change out the muffler, get rid of the resonator before the tip and get a nicer tip. Then leave it alone. Don't touch it. Don't even look under your truck after that. I'll install a camera, I'll know. And quit touching yourself as well. Clean your hands.

Well, if you just do the pipe, you will not get crap. Get a muffler and a muffler alone. You already have a cold air intake, just throw a K & N drop in in there

A decent muffler will free up just enough back pressure. These motors need the pressure to keep the torque in a decent range. I did that, lost the resonator before the tip and love it.

for size of pipe you need to run a 4" pipe to make sure you get plenty of flow, just like a diesel

for length you need to buy 3 90 degree angles, 6 45, and 2 60s. buy a straight pipe and cut it to 17.3452", 24.4521", and another one at 11.321".

piece it all together and you got yourself duals

Dude you are totally wrong dont screw him up, the exact directions call out from this:
for length you need to buy (3) 92.654786415 degree angles, (6) 45.78645, and (2) 60.2475. buy a straight pipe and cut it to 17.3452147564541567416", 24.452118715673", and another one at 11.32115673247".

dont half ass it, do it right the first time!!

Im interested in installing a flowmaster 40 onto my 2003 X. I dont know much about exhaust/mufflers. Do you guys think i should just change the muffler, or should i remove the resonator too. If i decide to remove the resonator, do i just tell the muffler mechanic and they will know exactly what i mean. If the resonator is cut, do i need to get a new tip. Also, i live in CA, so should i have to worry about future smog checks when i do this mod?

ya there is. flowmaster rmakes great mufflers. anything is better then that trash can muffler. that thing resticts so much air its not even funny. however you do not want to do a true dual system. our engines are made to work under back preasure. which is what that stock muffler makes. try a super 44 or a flowmaster 50 series with dual outlets. that will be just find. then find a nice cold air intake and you will be set for performance. the whole performance exhaust idea is to lessen back preasure to some degree so your engine can expell those gasses more easly. you lessen backpressure to much and youll burn a valve
