Hi,

I just bought a 07 Xterra S. I am looking for winter tires, would you have any recommendations ?
Just looking for regular size for now 265/70-16. I need something that can get me on snow covered trails since i live up north.

I have a few more questions but i m not sure it is the right thread to post them :
- originally i wanted the off road grade but couldnt find one, and i am a little worried if the S is as capable offroad ? (nothing extreme like rock crawling though)
- the main thing i ll miss is the rear locking diff... do you know if it s possible to add one on a S model ? What range of price ?

Thanks all
Nice forum, i m gonna spend time here i think ahah

I would just get a good all terrain like the BFG A/T. It'll work well in all weather conditions and last 60K+ miles.

The only difference between the S and the Offroad in terms of trail capability is the rear locker. You can buy a locker for your X. Go here: 4x4parts.com

The off road's also got some different traction control and other off road specific programming, but for regular trails, the S is perfectly capable...and, you can add aftermarket stuff to make up for what's missing, plus, in some cases, it will end up MORE capable than the Pro when all's said and done.

:D

I second the motion for BFG AT ko's, and add Goodyear Duratracs to the short list.

You can fit a 285/75/16 tire w/o any lift, etc...as a direct replacement for the stock tires (265/75/16 was a stock tire option for example)

Thanks for the answers !
I guess I ll see after a while what upgrades i really need

As for the winter tires, i m really looking into the Duratrac after getting some positive reviews about them.

Do you guys know anything about the Federal Himalayas SUV ??

I like Duratracs as well, but there is a one tire I know of that's better in winter. I run Yokohama MT+II tires year round....once the tire is siped it's one of the best snow/ice tires you can buy:

On average, an Xterra will get 30,00 miles out of a set if they are well rotated. I've worked in the tire industry for 15 years and the MT+II is one of the most impressive tires I've seen.

I recently posted here about the Hankook Dynapro ATMs. I read good results. I had planned on getting these, but can't find them locally. I'm now seriously considering the Cooper Discoverer AT3. Wonder if anyone here has any experience with them. They're fairly new, but every review I've read is great. I can get them mounted/balanced with a 1 year warranty with lifetime rotation/inflation/flat repair in stock size, out the door for like $675.
