I recently had my valve cover gaskets replaced,
I have oil gunk all over my engine.
How do I clean my engine without damaging the electrical components?
I want that baby to sparkle again........

i hear good things about simple green but have no experience using it
you could always use brake parts cleaner

Someone else told me that....and I thought it sounded strange lol
I wanted to check before I try to spray water or anything else on it.
The last thing I need is to make more problems.

ok then check it

for peace of mind, wait til you have nothing to do for a day
take your battery out so your truck has no power
clean it all real good and close the hood and wait til the next day to make sure its dry, hell you could even park it in the sun with the hood up to "bake" the moisture out of everything before reinstalling the battery and crankin her up
your computer is in the truck, all you gotta worry about in the engine bay are alternator, wires, connections, and fuses and without power running tru any of it it shouldnt even be an issue if you wait for it to dry

thats how i would clean my engine, though i doubt it'll ever happen

I took my X to a detailer shop and paid a guy $20 cash to spray some foam cleaner on the engine and then using a heated pressure washer spray it down, then cover it with some kind of engine detailer...

this was when I first bought the X and had it done, now I could almost care less becasue it get messy almost every weekend lol...

GUNK brand foaming engine degreaser is what I use. Every once in a while I like to detail my engine compartment too.

I spray it mainly on the intake manifold.

As far as the electrical stuff, try to stay away from the disributor cap with the water.

For You really need to watch the electrical system.

I recommend that you use

on your plugs. Disconnect them, spray a bit, wait a minute or 2 and then re-connect.

Also, where your hood latch mechanism is, I recommend

You can also put this on door hinges and door locking mechanisms as well. I use mine on the hatch at all pivot points.

Hope that helps Tina.

I use Armor all glass wipes (blue lid) on the plastic, then I follow with protectant wipes (yellow lid)

My mechanic (Father) says to keep the engine running when you spray down the engine compartment.

If you use a spray engine cleaner, the engine has to be cool and not running and then when you go to wash it off, turn the engine on and then start washing it off with water. The heat the engine builds up helps dry everything off.

The wires are NGK...just got them put on.
It runs so much better.

It's not a yellow top...that would be nice. It's a Duralast.

Windshield washer cap should be here today. Also Just got the club X stickers. I'll put those on today.

I cleaned my engine with a compressor hooked up to a washer and squrited a bucket of of one fifth CARBON-X and four fifths water. Just shhot the liquid all over except squirt down on electrical parts not up. works pretty good.

I know this is an old post, but WOW

Man, that looks GREAT! Please tell me how you did that...I know there are parts you should not get wet, yada yada, but how do you clean it? Do you simply spray cleaner on everything under the hood, then rinse everything clean with a garden hose?? I just haven't got a clue. I don't want to screw up anything electrical...!

All I did was take Advance Auto Parts Heavy Duty Engine Degreaser and spray it everywhere under the hood...and then took my pressure washer and rinsed it all off....worked great.
