Mobil 1 general purpose synthetic is what I use on nearly everything

i used to use marine grade on everything, only because the guy at the store told me if I do water crossing its awesome, so I was using that, then my grease gun blew up on me and I never replaced it...

Well some greases are better than others, for sure. However, any grease is FAR better than no grease, which is the treatment a lot of vehicles tend to get. Just the fact that you're greasing it is the important part. Was the stuff he had molybdenum di sulfide based? It's a pretty common multipurpose, would work fine.
