The sunroof on my 2000 4x4 SE does not seal as tight as I would wish - at speeds of 50 mph+ you can hear a constant wind noise.

Current solution is to pull latch an inch or so toward the open position, which increases tension, but I'd like to fix this the proper way.

Any suggestions? I was thinking slide some tubing into the weather stripping to add some rigidity...not sure what else to do.

I have had the roof rack out for a few years now.

Any suggestions appreciated.

The 2 screws that hold the latch to the glass itself are either loose or you are missing one and the other one is loose.

Pull the cover off the latch side that is mounted to the roof itself. Then fold the latch forwards, revealing the screws that hold the latch to the glass. Tighten those up.

If those are tight, then adjust the latch backwards, which will tighten it up. You might even find that the attatchment screws for the latch to the roof are loose. Then you need to tighten those and adjust it so that the latch has good pressure when latching the sunroof.

Just make sure they're all tight, everythings adjusted and your noise will go away.

I cannot wait to get to my car and check out the assembly. Never even thought to pull the cover since it was so easy to just slightly pull down on the flip handle to increase tension.

Dan, pull the existing bolt and go to your local ACE hardware store or any store which will sell an individual bolt. Home Depot usually sells 4 to a pack.

Just match the bolt up when you go in:mocking:

That's what the dealer told me. I'm reluctant to pull it so as to lose the ability to put them back in easily, but may just do that. May also be lazy and order it, have it delivered to office, and put it in on the way home...

If I have time, I may just head over to the mom and pop Ace that has drawers and drawers of metric bolts....

Yeah I think ACE is the best place for bolts and small parts. I have spent 2 hours at a time looking at all of the small parts there at ACE

OK - I pulled the bolt, brought it to a hardware store, found a match and added a lock washer plus a regular washer (it was a mm longer than original) and was good to go. The replacement was stanless steel, tho, no black available, so I will either track down a black or replace the black with a second stainless steel one (I bought 2).

What a relief. Was tough to get it back in without a second hand pushing down on top (the little rubber insulator would push up on the metal piece with the threads) but eventually I got it and the roof is closing tighter than the day I bought it new off the showroom floor.
