Hello all. I was wondering how spongey does the rear on an X have to be. Mine I noticed that when I brake the back comes up quite quick, and when I gas it sags down real fast. ( I know how gravity works), but I also noticed, that when I'm on the highway and in town the rear feels real bouncey. Like the tires are bouncing when i hit the slightest bump. All my wheels are balanced and I'm not doing 100 mph. I'm thinking i should replace my rear shocks and go from there. Any input would be great thanks guys and gals..

If you're still running your OEM shocks and you can spare the cash... shitcan your stock ones and get a set of Bilsteins. There really wasn't anything wrong with mine when I bought my Bils and I don't miss the stock ones one bit. The improvement is unreal.
If you've seen the video on youtreadtube.com of my X sliding down that hill, you can see my right rear tire actually come off the ground when I was coming to a stop. It seems (and this is only theory... I really haven't read into this at all) that the xterras are ass high and nose heavy big time. It may just be the way it handles. I don't really know. So I don't feel it's really your shocks at fault for the nosedive when braking and the launch when you accelerate.

My '00 Xterra had worn rear shocks when I bought it. The back was very bouncy. I just bought cheapy shocks from Auto Zone they worked well. I sold that Xterra with another 30K on it and the shocks were still good.

Oh yea ! The shocks are soooo shot ! I took them out today and replaced them. Went to Autozone yesterday and ordered them. I didn't get the Bils, maybe this summer sometime I will buy them and put'em in. But the new ones cost me about $122. for the pair. and WOW ! what a difference. The old ones would just compress but never return. Thought that with only 39,000 mi the stock ones would last a little longer. Thats ok only took about 20 mins to put the new ones in....
