Does anyone know if its worth removing the cat and replacing with a strait pipe on the 4 cyl or should i just replace the muffler only.

I live in oregon and there are no smog checks

Not really worth it quite honestly. It does not sounds that great and the gain is just the sound pretty much. Flowmaster 50 series is a good type of exhaust that you can buy that sounds pretty good. But straight pipes I do not think would be worth it.

if you do the straight pipe you loose the back pressure that you need... the only way a straight pipe would work if you have a diesel

does you X have 2 cats?? if so you could always get a federal emissions down tube, I believe I saw one on in the Xterra parts catalog....

there are ways to get around the back pressure issue, if you had one....

Ya... I agree besides its just going to introduce new problems for ya..

Don't you have to pass emissions with a cat on board?

my best advice it go to a reputable muffler shop and tell them you want to make your cat interchangeable with a test pipe, then you will have the ability to swap it out and put the cat back in if you dont like it.. I had this done on one of my cars before and it cost about $150...

They cut out your cat, put some flanges on it, and give you a straight pipe with some flanges then you can swap then in and out whenever you want...
