Hello all,

My 2005 SE does'nt crank over when the engine is hot. It has happened about 7 times and the conditions are nearly always the same:
-warm day
-ran for at least 45-min to an hour
-AC on
-Stereo on
-stop/go stuff plus highway use

I turn off the X, 10/15 minutes later when I go to start, it doesnt even crank. Just turn the key, all the lights come on and then nothing happens. It has a brand new battery and starter and my local shop has checked the car out twice. When the engine is cool, it starts perfectly every time. The final peice of the puzzle is that when this happens, I can get it to start after I put my portable jumper on the battery.

You need to have the codes scanned, as there may be an identafiable issue in them.
First thing to do, is take off the battery terminals and clean them and the cables and reinstall.

If you have a multi-meter handy, the next time it happens read the voltage at the battery to see what it reads. It *should* be roughly 12.6 or a little higher since it was just running. If it's lower, than either your battery is taking a poop again, or something is up with your charging system (alternator).

You can have the alternator tested for free at Advance Auto... they should have a hand-held jobber they can test the charging system with the alternator in the car. It's fairly accurate, or you can pop the alternator out and they can bench test it which is more accurate.

The input is very appreciated! :)
The strange thing is that I just had a brand new battery and starter put into it and the terminals are immaculate. I hoped that a beefier battery and new starter would solve my problem. Apparently not.

If the problem is the charging system, wouldnt the engine at least try to crank? The dash indicates that the battery is normal and charged.

What is it about the engine being hot that affects the starter/ignition/electrics? Further, why is my portable jumper somehow able to bring it to life when this happens?
