I like the way the fenders are cut, makes me want to buy some stockys and another sawzall. i've also had the Hurculiner stuff for a while now to do the sides but eh. Bumpers took long enough.

Lookin' good chief!

I can't wait to see that lobo setup when you get all the guts put back in your interior.

I'm thinking within the next month my rig is going to see a drastic improvement. Getting ready to pull the trigger on my new wheels and 33's. I'm still debating the tires though. My new job has a 60 mile commute (roundtrip) so I've had to rethink my rubber. Still really liking the Geolander M/T's though. If I run 2 sets then my DD's will probably be some 32" A/T KO's and then pick up a cheap set of 33" Maxxis Bighorns for my M/T's.

James, by stockys I was just referring to a set of stock fenders. I have a fear of commitment in cutting on my X since it has no rock/tree rash so I'd have to buy a whole other set to cut up.

I was in the Navy for 6 years, I was a diesel mechanic in the Navy.

Now I am a diesel mechanic not in the Navy. I work at a place called Rocky Mountain Materials & Asphalt. I mainly work on Kenworth trucks but I have done all kinds of different stuff from trailers, to tractors to pug mills, and everything in between.

I am kinda getting back into it you might say because I didn't have enough hands on in the military and if you know the military, you do not touch electrical. My rate in the Navy was Engineman.

My "title" was EN2(SCW) Jones

Since he has not done so, Sir James made some progress on the interior this weekend. He was informed the official beginning of wheeling season is almost here, and unless he wants to ride in mine, he better hurry up! It is going to look really good when he is ever done with it.

I think I heard him say 37s with IFS.

Hold on a second I have been starting at this pic and used some software to "try" to enlarge it and it looks like they are almost the Hella HID style driving lights in there.. Could it be??

soccerbrace
06-12-2008, 11:17 AM
Good guess! They are Hella Black Magics. They are black when they are off.

I have to fasten them down properly. I just need to install some Nylock nuts. I hooked them up to the stock switch. Without the nylocks, they are somewhat loose and you can see by the driver's side in this pic. The light pivots from the bottom mount. Time and place is all that I need.

I say get a set of black 00-01 corner lights and stick them in, it will keep the black look :)

soccerbrace
06-12-2008, 11:50 AM
I bought motorcycle turn signals that I am going to wire to the stock harness. The turn signals are going to be bulbs and the driving lights are going to be LED's

Both are going to be blacked out.

cbzdel
06-12-2008, 12:03 PM
Thats what I have, I have silverstar turn signals and driving light LEDs, I just didnt want to mess with load regulators for the turn signals otherwise I would of went with LEDs..

Are you gonna black out the tails or do anything special there??

I had a set of steel brake lights on my XJ with LED inserts in them, they were AWESOME!!

soccerbrace
06-12-2008, 12:09 PM
For the tails, I might spray em some time, but no time soon. They are not a big deal to me.

Alright, so the stock headlights were damaged and I came up with this alternative:

They are Hella Black Magics

That is a close up of them. They are black when the light is off.

This is before they were fully fastened but it is a better look at how they look on Shelby

Friggin' sweet bro!

So running those hellas as your stock headlights doesn't violate any laws? Or is that something you'll worry about when someone official brings it to your attention? In otherwords, if you get pulled over by a cop. hahaha

That stereo looks nice. Throw some more switches in the dash and you'll have a full-blown cockpit instead of a console. hahaha

And the seats are the shizz!

Armorology is basically a 1 man fab shop. His name is Jed. His stuff is super clean, and always comes out perfect. I pimp his stuff whenever I get a chance.

The extinguisher does not get in the way whatsoever, and is on there pretty solid.

Yeah, I meant to send you that text. I like to keep you in the loop.

This is what it looks like now
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/IMG_5154.jpg

First I added the stickers (Thanks Todd!)

Next, I added an interior light. it is an LED strip
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/IMG_5164.jpg

Then I cut a hole in the storage compartment and put a grommet in there with a drain. And I ran that hose out. I drilled some holes and attached a small butterfly valve, and it drains throught the tranny tunnel. I turned it into a cooler so I can just throw ice straight in there and it will drain itself.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/IMG_5160.jpg

Next I drilled holes so that the cigarette lighters were still usable.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/IMG_5158.jpg I had to make a custom washer for it to work. What a PITA

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/IMG_5163.jpgI ran all of the wiring to these plugs. Those plugs are for floppy disk drives actually. I had to find dimmer wires, switched powers and I still need to find an interior headlight hot. Any suggestions?

Next, I bought this plexiglass. You cannot see through it right now, but I actually put 5 LED's and that's why I need that headlight hot wire!
I cut the two 2 1/16 holes with a hole saw, and finished off the edges. It was my first work with Plexiglass. I superglued the hinges to the plexiglass, and screwed the other side in.
The hinges work well. I still need to file one side down for a snug fit.

Haha! Thanks for the pics bro!

Alright, so here is a better view of what the console looks like all lit up.

Here it is lit up! I tapped the gauges into the dimmer switch for the stereo and the LED's come on when the headlights are on. Both are on switched power.
See the 3 triangulare blue LED's on my amps?
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/James001-1.jpg

Well I put the blue LED's in that same configuration in the console.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h27/soccerbrace/James003-1.jpg

and I have the 2 red LED's in there too...

The gauges are not hooked up yet, so that will happen when I do the tranny and T-case oil change.

But anyway here is the DVD player and the inclinometer. The inclinometer is tapped into the dimmer switch as well and mounted on the center trim piece.

soccerbrace

Thanks Preston!- There are updates, Waiting on pictures from friends though.

Last thing I did was a dual fan conversion.

I removed the battled worn radiator, and installed the supercharged radiator which has a core that is 2x as thick. Then I ordered 2 Zirgo electric fans which are 3,000CFM each.

I had wiring in mind, but my friend had a better idea. I have a 3 position switch which controls everything. The top position is Automatic.

Automatic will turn on when the ground is completed by a temp switch when the coolant temp reaches 180. It will also turn on when the AC compressor comes on. So essentially, I can run AC Full blast all day long, even wheelin my ass off. Also, there is a manual position, and this means it will be running all the time, and the Off(center) position, just means they will stay off, this will be good for water crossings. It usually just stay on automatic.

james dude, dosent the thermo not even open til 186?
which would mean your fans are running 100% of the time your truck is at norm op temp.
you'd gain alot more performance by setting it to kick on at like 195-200

but at the same time you have a switch to turn em off so i guess it dosent matter, but your auto setting is still basically another 'on' setting

Thanks bleezy! Yeah, I guess it does come open at that temp, but right before that temp it will open and I figure the temp switch not the T-stat are not 100 percent accurate. The fans are defintely not on 100% of the time and I have not finished the wiring, I just have them at automatic right now.

Dustin, thanks for the Zirgo fan idea. These things are the shizz! Expensive but badass.

Yeah, they are 125 a piece

I was thinking that might keep it from completely rusting through. As long as you like it that's all tha matters...

I guess my entire suspension and undercarriage is REALLY cool then, due to the Northeast road salt.

We have enough problems with rust, I'd rather not start it on the body.
If you like the look, then go for it.

Not my cup of tea.

soccerbrace
09-14-2009, 11:25 AM
Well, rust on frame, suspension and undercarriage is more structural than a hatch.

Brian, thanks for the props on uniqueness. That's what I was going for, and they do look super sexy on VW's imo too!

Andrew, I am keeping it like this. This is my new paint. I am going to throw some emblems back on in a couple of days, tint the window, and paint the plastics, and if I come across a rear wind deflector, that's going on too.

BigDog107
09-14-2009, 11:26 AM
Better find a way to stop the rust...........or you wont have a rear hatch soon.............

soccerbrace
09-14-2009, 11:33 AM
No, it will not rust all the way through any time soon. You can quote me on that if it does. I promoted that rust, that is why it was able to make it rust like that in 20 minutes.

I really thought at first you were going to use that rust converter that turns rust into a primer for a new color or maybe bedlining it. But hey props on something that hasn't been done here on the forums "on purpose" yet.

It's definitely unique bro. Not the direction I would have gone but then again... you always do enjoy breaking the mold of DIY mods that's for sure. I'm ready to see this thing on the trails man! Too many garage shots! ;)

Just out of curiousity....when will your friend start mass producing the rear bumper similar to yours? I can't find it on his site....

soccerbrace
09-15-2009, 05:37 PM
I am not sure he is going to mass produce that exact bumper. In fact I hope he does not, because I like being the only one with things.:) He is mass producing many things though, just not that.

09-15-2009, 05:55 PM
Yeah I really don't get it. Rust = bad and not the good bad either.
Not to mention everyone that rides with you will end up needing tetanus booster shots eventually!
The guy that rear ends you is going to get off easy as his insurance adjuster will just point out, "look at the condition it was in prior to the accident".
Sorry James, I've just spent too many years keeping rust at bay to give a thumbs up for a 'mod' like this one. If you like it though...seek help ;)

James I think you should do the rest of your X like the hatch. It would look fuc*in epic!!!!

I really like your bumper, James but I would add a little tweaks to it...maybe to where I could retain my plastics....and a hitch too....now that'd be a bumper I'd be willing to buy from him....bolt on, of course.

Any update on how the rusting is working out for you? As in, better coverage etc.

soccerbrace
09-18-2009, 01:55 PM
Yeah, I do have some updates. It is fully rd now, and the texture is slowly starting to change. I unrusted a few spots and picked up some new emblems since I had to destroy the old ones. I installed them and continued on with the rusting. It is about 80 blended in with the oldest rust, and when it is 100% I will get some day shots.

Im guessing by the ripped apart front end on the Xterra that this is the beginning of a front bumper, tube fender, exo setup or something along those lines.

I don't think so....

there's no way thats strong enough material for a bumper or Exo

Im pretty sure it goes in the back cargo area, it might be the new lobo rack

True I was wondering on the rigidity of that but it was just a guess. If thats going in the back I cant wait to see the final result.

James, dude.....
I don't even know what to say........but how the heck you get all these ideas for your X??? are you connected to some kind of futuristic machine or so???? The mods are awesome! I just read all 24 pages!!! and man the rust mod.....its a beast!!! can't wait to see more pics. If only I could dream of such things for my X.....but I guess a pml and BL will do for my futuristic "exclusive design" for now....
Dude keep it up!!!! Uniqueness is what it is all about, and yours is winning by a mile! Good work.

I think it is going to sit in the back and the rear legs are going to rest on the wheel wells. It will be the biggest baddest lobo rack that any man has ever constructed.

That is what I see any way.

yeah i saw parts of the lobo rack when it was in the first few stages of being built. it looks really solid and they came up with some good ideas for what james will use it for. they got it all figured out. I can't wait to see it put in and all hooked up with his gear attached to it
